E30 Zone

it dosent normaly happen to me, people walkin up and asking if i want to sell my bmw but.......

over the weekend i was asked 4 times "do u fancy sellin your old bm mate?"

i no my cars quite a tidy and shiny but it dosent have for sale written on it anywhere so why do they all think its for sale???????

dont worry about it. when you do want to sell it no coont will be interested.

I've had several people asking me if i would keep them in mind if i sell my iS now i've bought another e30. Had people in car parks walk up to me and start asking me about it alot though!

i supose it is a copliment aswell but it can be annoying when all you want to do is get in the car and go home haha

What really gets my back up is certain people referring to my car as "old" as it's on a J plate, or thinking it's past it because of all the work / improvements that I make to it.

These are the same people that see a new Corsa as a much more sensible option compared to an old BMW. Drives me crazy..

I suppose there's no accounting for taste really.

18 years + is old in car terms nowadays.even my first car was only 7 years old at the time.

Agree,plenty of people comment on the chrome turd,(all good thankfully!)but like you say,they cant understand why you would want to be upgrading a car or fixing it every now and again,when they see it as a waste of time and money and probably think you would be better to put your money into a new car which you dont need to be fixing all the time!

One day, one day...I would take it as a big compliment but would prefer to here the word "classic" instead of "old"

Alot of moden cars have terible reliability and are expensive to fix! A nice condition E30 is a very reliable form of transport and cheaper to repair!

Honestly, for all it annoys me...... I love my E30!

Ive got a friend who does the whole randomly asking people if they want to sell their cars business. To be fair to him a couple of years ago he happened to be driving past a Sierra Cosworth (original one not sapphire) he stopped to ask the guy by the car and asked if he wanted to sell it and the guy just happened to have been told by his wife to get that bloody thing of the drive. Basically he picked up a very mint Cosworth for 4K that was worth more like 10k all because he had the cheek to ask plus the guy he bought it off did not know what he had.

I found it very bizarre when I found a note of the windscreen of my old iS asking if I was going to sell it and a phone number in order to contact the guy. I'm not sure he even looked at the car, I didn't thinking a pink and orange crusty turd like that was at all desirable.

My brother has a Prius. Before that he had an XC-90. I think he does it to wind me up!

I normally get 2 or 3 random people a month asking if I want to sell my e30.

I've now acquired another black 2 door so the next time someone asks I can sell them that!

There was a story in the Telegraph Motoring section at the weekend about a proposal to government suggesting they offer a free £2000 deposit on a new car if you scrap your old and therefore (!) environmentally damaging vehicle. I nearly wrote to them to express my disgust, but then realised that writing letters to the Telegraph to vent one's spleen is the top of a slippery slope! I just threw the paper across the room and swore instead.

Sadly, governments will continue to employ folk whose grasp of 'joined-up thinking' is sketchy at best, and they'll continue to solicit advice from folk who neatly avoid disclosing their vested interests. It's down to the rest of us to quietly grumble and accept it, as we always bloody have.

Spot on- a 1yr old corsa will lose more value in another 2yrs than the price of a nice E30.(sport)
They also need dealer servicing,non classic insurance ,very expensive parts which cannot be found second hand - and they are left with a worthless car at the end of it.
Most of them go and buy another after 3 or 4 years..wtf?

If they bought an E30 it would cost nothing to run,nothing to insure and the price will stay the same-if not more.
And they think we are stupid

Yes- at least once a month I get asked if I want to sell.
I have had a lot of E30s and it seems to happen a lot more nowerdays, it is the status improving and the fact that they are getting seen as cool and retro like a mk1 Golf I think.
Its also getting a lot harder to find a nice one.
It does get annoying but it also tells me that I need to hold on to it, because if the status is changing- so will the value.
And I made this mistake before with a mk2 RS 2000, I sold it as prices rose but then they doubled.and doubled again.

I've only been asked by a couple of people...but one of which must have asked me about 4 or 5 times now and asks "fancy cashing that in" and is told no everytime.

Obviously if he said "would you like to punch me in my annoying chavvy face?" he'd get told the opposite!

I think i have been asked by about 8 people in coming up 2 years one even asked if i would take his clean E36 Cabby plus a lot of cash if you wouldn't mind as if i want the hassle of dragging that down the breakers I take it as a complement and know i will be a very old man before i will ever think of parting from her

as barry has said... its reliability that matters in this day and age! new cars are @hit... i mean their winds wobble when pushed ffs.. they arent built to last. the e30 just keeps going and going and .. .... .. . i get allot of people as me to sell the turd... it wont happen.

ahh, I remember a day when this salesman loud mouth ex squaddie type was blurting about his company focus tdci - and at the same time trying to put my (t)rusty old 325i down in front of his mates..

I told him a few things and outlined the poor build quality plasticy shite heap he was so proud of. He was adamant that his focus was the nuts so I absolutely blitzed the poor chap down the back roads - pulled a discreet but stylish donut in the small car park as we returned.. he said 'oh I don't want to go so fast I might break it' to which i said 'i've been trying to break mine since I bought it & for the record, when I overtook you I took it easy'

I think it done the old e30 proud.

Still to this day, it's the simple things that please me about the e30.. Eg, how the trim above the steering column is removed so easlily by spinning the knurled alloy, retaining nut into the palm of your hand.. Pure pleasure.
