Mine is lowered 40mm on 17". 60mm is a bit too low

To be honest e30s need to be lowerd 60mm at the front as the arches are so high but its not realy a good idea with that alloy sump sticking out of the bottom.
40mm never looks enough imo,but 60mm look right but is a bit scary.
I also think they look arse heavy when the back is lowerd 60mm due to the rear arch shape and the exhaust grounds out easily.
60/40 is the best look, but 40/40 is better for the sump.

Ive got 40 drop on the front, and I still get some clearance problems as I have a steep driveway. A drop of 60 does look great though

when you say 60/40 do you mean 60 at the front or the back?

60mm front 40mm rear is the only way with e30 as has been said already front archs are too large for 40mm front

I have my car lowered 60/60 and it looks good.
However it's not compatible with the following things -
Kerbs
Speedbumps
Passengers
I would stay at 40mm all round if you intend to use the car daily or take passengers.

Before i wrote my 4 door 325 off it was used daily with the wife and kid (push chair etc etc) and it was 60/40 with no isues. Speed bumps and the like were no problem. I was on 15" bbs and 195/50 tyres. I know 16" borbets are a different kettle altogether. I had a's on a 60/60 touring witch looked amazing but was a nightmare.

Good point Dezzy, wheel size will allways be a major factor when talking ground clearence.

60-40 tends to look best of a facelift, as the arches sit at different heights on the body, so 60/40 gets the gaps a bit more even and gives it a bit of a leaning forward stance.
60/60 looks better on a chromey, as their rear arches sit higher, and the body is looks thinner behind the arches so you need to drop it more for it to look balanced.

60/40 drop, 215/40/17 tyres The occasional scrape when 4 people in the car but generally not too bad at all.

i've got my car (325i sport tech2) with a 60mm drop at the front on coilovers with a 40mm drop at the back on adjustable shocks & springs (mind you both are ride height adjustable).
& i run 17inch rims with 205/40/17 at the front & 215/40/17 at the back on alpina replicas (ignore the one's in my sig as they are long gone).
i've never had any proplems with rubbing when i had passengers in the car (that i know of lol)
as has been said before a 60/40 drop is the only way to go.
but i'm retro fitting 15 inch bbs rims with 205/55/15 tyres all round so i'll see what it's like then as i hope it won't rub.
