Little question, calmed down after my rant last night.
Will Duck Tape damage the canvas on my hood if i use it to try and make it water proof until i get it repaired?

Its not nice to get any sticky stuff on the roof, you can get sticky stuff removers but i suppose depending whats in them, may cause damage to the canvas. What bit are you trying to do a temporary repair on ?

As another thought, could you not use one of those car caps? and tuck it under the complete roof and then tucked in by the windows and roof channel? might look a bit pikey but would at least cover the whole roof and avoid getting any further damage ?

i would use foil tape myself. its unlikely to come off but doesnt leave much residue.

yeah but like I said, there is a brand of "closure tape" called Duck Tape.
Don't confuse it with gaffer tape - tape for gaffers.

I wasn't aware there was a duck tape as well, still made me chuckle though. A lad at work who thought it was funny to screw a grease nipple into the side of someones toolbox and fill it up with grease, knows about tape.

Tape on the inside, then it wont matter about any stains.

Exactly my thought or use 3m 3434 blue maskling tape, sticks well but doesnt leave residue on bodywork, not tried on the roof though.
