It actully says "AMC" I think.
It is a replacement head, i.e not bmw. Having said that they are good quality casting, the ports are not finished quite as well as the bmw, but otherwise they are on a par, except for one thing. They don't crack like the bmw one

which is a huge peace of mind.
Its funny you mention it as I have just rebuilt one today!! It will be up for sale tomorrow if anyone would like it.
cheers maggs

The one I got from corry racing was amc. has stronger journals and stronger wider water way's. Corry's did sort the roughness of the casting out before it was in my hands though

.

If you have the engine out of the car the best bet would be to take the sump off and have a look at the crank.
If it is a 2.7, the crank will be stamped with "HUB 81" somewhere. I cant quite remember where but I'm sure it on one of the counter weights.
Thid means the crank has a stroke of 81mm, instead of 75mm. These cranks come from either the e28 525e engine, or a diesel engine the m21, from the 5/324td
the other way to check would be look inside the ECU if you have it, it will have a different chip in it, but this is less conclusive than taking the sump off.
Good luck, hope youve got a 2.7
