What accident?

Up until Friday, my E30 has been sitting parked quite happily in a block of Ice since New Years day.
On friday I was driving past my car in my van an noticed a note on the windscreen, the not turned out to be a crime ref notice with reference to the rear of my car and to contact the number.
I checked the rear of the car which all seemed ok, but because of the ice I couldnt be certain there was no damage, It deffo wasnt major if there was any.
I phoned the number on the note and they said that someone had tryed to park behind me but had hit the car behind them, then hit my car and drove off and I need to go to the Police station with my Insurance details, log book, MOT, driving license and counterpart.
Today I checked my defrosted car in daylight and indeed no damage, bumper seemed alighned as before and panel gaps all seem correct, good I thought.
Then I went to the Police station, told them there was no damage but they said they still need all my details and I have to contact another number as my neighbours car is damaged and the twat who hit us both had been contacted and insurance companies were involved.
Now Im not happy about this at all, apart from being a huge waste of my time they have said that my insurance company will have to be notified.
My worry now is that my premium will go up even though Ive done nothing wrong.
Am I right to worry?
I thankfully have very little experience with insurance companies.

seems odd that you HAVE to do anything. If some guy pnches you in the street but you dont want to press charges theres nothing they can do

surley if your car doesnt need any money spent of it then they should have an excuse to put the premium up.
No damage no claim.

i cant imagine it will effect your premium anyway as theres no damage to you and your car didnt cause any damage and no claim on your part not to mention you werent actually in the car at the time.

If your car is parked there dude and there is no damage to it, despite an alleged "incident" taking place, then I don't see any reason why you need to be bothering your insurers as you are not claiming and nobody else involved can claim from your insurance, so just leave it be.

Thats what Im hoping fuzzy.
But you know what arseholes insurance companies are like!
Starting to think I shouldnt have made the effort to go to the Police station but thought Id do the right thing.
Im sure many of us have accidently taped someone elses car but to hit 2 cars and damage one of them and drive off is taking the piss!

Oz. If theres no damage to your car and you're happy that it's as straight as it was before, Don't bother ringing the insurance company. Put it like this, When you craked your front spoiler on that speed hump, did you ring them? No because you didn't want to claim. Absolutely no reason to ring them now either I'd say.

Just forget about it, I would. If they really need to be in touch with you that badm then it's down to them to contact you. Don't go out of your way to do something that has absolutely no benefit to you whatsoever...

ive heard though that if you inform your insurer of an incident like that that it can still go down as a black mark on your record so its best to just not tell them at all unless you need to claim.i dont know if theres much truth in that or not.

I hear you Trev, even if there was damage I still wouldnt contact my insurance anyway, even though im fully comp and protected no claims with the excess and possible premium hike its not worth it.
E30beemer,
cheer dude, IIRC your and insurance man. I wont be making any effort to take it further, its just if the Police start chasing me for details.

If theres no damage then where is the evidence your car was hit? If it was me I would not cooperate.

Oz this is a really good point. Theres NO evidence of your car being hit. So no point in taking action. Simple

You were not a witness, nor have you been hurt or had any damage to your car, so why the hell must you do anything?
Seems very very odd to me mate.

Protected NCD is a bit of a false sense of security. It can save you a bit of money in the event of claims being made, bit it DOES NOT give you immunity to premiums increasing in the future.
All that protecting your NCD does is allow the same % deduction to be made from future premiums. So on max NCD you'll still see a 65% reduction from the gross premium, but that doesn't stop the bandits totally legging the gross premium up in the first place!
Example - have a smash, claim, renewal comes through with your protected NCD. 65% deduction applies, but the cheeky blighters have set the gross premium at £2k, then reduced it by 65%.

About 8 years ago some stupid b17ch reversed into the front of my Orion and damaged her precious shopping trolley. All it did to the Orion was crack the number plate. Once I'd convinced her that it couldn't have been my fault - as she claimed - and that there were witnesses to back me up, she wouldn't stop screaming and f*** off until I gave her my insurance details.
Big mistake.....
In spite of me not claiming for any damage, and in spite of having witnesses saying that it was her fault, I lost my NCD. My insurers claimed that it was their "right" as they had to "cover their administration costs".
I won't get caught like that again.

oz another funny one is that you have been asked to produce your docs ....first as you were not driving then there is no legal requirement to produce your licence..and was it just a request you have not been given a hort1 as they have access to your insurance and mot on line so would not normally ask to get you to bring them in ....ie no hort1 then no legal requirement for you to attend with your docs ....forget it ........as far as you have been concerned you have not been involved in a accident so you dont need to reprt it to your insurance company
pm me if you wish to speak and ill give you my number

Pure speculation of course, but isn't this a plausible scenario - knob reverses into your neighbour's car and drives off, neighbour contacts police who can't be arsed to do anything about it, police make some throw-away comment about there being nothing they can do unless there is further damage to property or some such, neighbour thinks 'ah, that bloke's pride and joy e30's parked out there, bet if I say it damaged his car too he'll be fuming and badger the police as well'. Possible.
I'd be courteous and polite at all times but make no statement whatsoever - seems like whatever's gone on has nothing to do with you, and why lift lids on cans of worms?
