At the moment driving my discovery as a commuter
Image

Decided to get rid of most of my toys recently, the one that I miss the most is my old evo, looked dog rough as it was built from rallycar bits but was awesome fun and rapid!
Image

I still manage to offset the speed of the discovery whilst at work though  :

In order of things that I drive the most, I am a named driver on them all:

1998 Audi a3 1.6 SE:

Image

Thats the 'wifes' car, a lovely drive to be fair to it and quite spritly with a short ratio diff.

1990 205 mi16:

Image

Only drive this if i'm feeling stupid or deaf. Note the nissan next to it, I might swap the insurance over to that at the end of december for a month whilst we do some work on the 205.

2002 Clio DCI: The old dears wagon, lovely and economical. Shit turning circle though

2004 Mondeo Estate TDI in hearing aide Beige. Umm, lovely. Actually its a fantastic car to drive, and pokey enough.

My backup (or main car as it is at the moment because the E30 is being shit) - matt black metro on beige steelies

Looks a bit differnet atm from that picture, running van panels and tints on the front, currently a reliable as it gets 1.1 whopping 60bhp! but ive got a 150bhp 1.4 awaiting fitment (once the e30 starts playing nice :-x )

Image

The MG midget thats being a bitch at the moment (low compression) - considering putting a K-series in it at some stage just for reliability.

Image

And the landrover 90 I wish I never sold :(

^ K-series. Reliability?

Re:

Posted: Mon Dec 15, 2008 6:16 pm
by harry_p
compared to an a-series then yes!

a standard 120bhp 1.8 is going to be about 3 million times more reliable than a 120bhp a-series, and have the potential for a lot more.

thb, a lot of the k-series stuff is myth perpetuated by owners too stupid to check coolant levels more than once a decade. i've done 10s of thousands of hard driven miles in k-series powered cars, including commutes, long distance blasts, trackdays and drag runs and have never had a gasket problem. infact the only engine problems i have had have been with alternators, but then my m3 left me stranded on the m25 with a siezed alternator a few months after i bought it :P

Yup, spot on.

I got the car from my rents just before I turned 17, once I passed I did 32k in under a year and a half, then moved onto other cars, parked the metro infront of a set of garages weve got, just left it there for 10 months, came back to it, jumped the battery and its been going strong ever since, dont another 3k since finishing it and it hasnt missed a beat.

^ I know they aren't that bad, just unusual to hear the words reliable and k series in the same sentence :P .

I usually drive my oak green Golf daily (2.0L '6A' 16v, P&P'd head, big brakes etc)

Image

Also have a red Golf track car (2.0L 'ABF' 16v, roll cage, buckets etc) which is good fun...

Image

Kind of like old VW's as I grew up with them, had several Mk1 Golf's, Polo's etc and my family have an old Beetle and a few air cooled camper vans which I sometimes use. :D
