Leaded or unleaded?

Sorry if it's been asked a million times before, but my knowledge of this era of car is pretty shallow.

I've got a 1990 318i, what's the best fuel to run it on or would it have been unleaded from the factory?

Thanks.

Unleaded from factory.
95RON is good, I sometimes use the "Super" or "Premium" stuff which is 98RON.

You won't get ANY advantage from running your car on higer octane fuel.

Thank-you. I've always driven classics (leaded) before so not having to put some pissy additive in is a departure for me.

Cheers guys. :)

My Capri runs on Five Star. That's been illegal for more than 20 year.

I used to use additives in my 316 with m10 engine, and even if you strictly use 'em in the end nothing but real 4 star keeps the valves safe!

in the old days you got leaded 4 star and unleaded, they phazed out the leaded but substituted LRP in its place so older cars could still run as they wouldnt on unleaded. in the even older days i think you got 5 star but thats before my time.

That's not far the truth. Good little engines, that's probably why they lasted so long in BMW production line!

Not far from being the best engine BMW ever made!

1500hp came from that block!

I don't see why not, AFAIK you can put an M3 crank in an M10.
