Just found this by chance whilst searching for something else:

Looks like it could potentially be a very good purchase.

I know what I'd have! winkeye

The E30! Couldn't bring myself to be seen in an E36 convertible even if it is an M3!

I personally prefer the first C2.7 with the kit...that's cool!

2nd C2.7 for 7.5k...is that geezer dreaming? That's E30 M3 money.

E36 M3's are ridiculously cheap now but an Evo convertible in Estoril Blue is still cool!

Strange that seeing as it was an alternative to the M3 built in far less numbers.

A C2 2.7 is miles more desireable than a LHD four potter :)

On the face of it, it does sound/appear quite tempting. Its all in the veiwing thou. imho !

Am i correct in thinking that on a previous thread someone mentioned it had been subject to an insurance claim a while ago?????

This is the car that a Zoner got very upset about when he HPI'd it. Turned out to be a cat C.

Simon might remember his username, he had a replica Alpina with a 2.7 in it and got very very upset.

Id well have that one at 3295 but Id never pay 7.5k for an E30 :)

In comparison to Alpina and Hartge conversions the M3 was mass produced. For example my H28 with only 42k and completely rot free cost as much as a rotten M3 to buy... I know which i'd sooner have. There was literally only a hand full of them built too, i've never seen another. If anyone else has, show me :)

A C2 really is everything you could want in an e30 imo, the right number of cylinders with decent grunt, the noise, classy subtle looks, and the handling package. The steering wheels even in the right place. I like e30 M3's, a lot, maybe more as a track toy though. The Alpina is surely a much better all rounder.

I'd rather an Alpina, Schnizter or Hartage over an M3. I'd buy an M3 for garaging and occassional drives, but i've always preferred the looks of the straight E30 style. M3s are cool but not that cool. TBH i'd rather spend thousands on an imaculate tech 1 or tech 2 than an M3 for the same money...

But i really want a Pina...

Is the general view that 7.5 bags is too much for that alpina then. Assuming it's as mint as it looks i'd pay that (if i had it  ) the only thing that would bother me is that it's an auto. If you changed it to a manual would that de-value it do you think? Silver leather sounds appealing too.

The reason why this car is/was 7.5k was mainly its mechanical history, namly an £18,000 full moving part rebuild by BMW done not so long ago.

Its no ordinary e30, the original bill for this car was £37,500! It has the best of everything, e.g. Schnitner suspension has replaced the troubled (recalled) Alpinas springs, its fully loaded, even has bespoke Griffin cam & headwork.

Goes way beyond any e30 M3 in terms of comfort, noise, style IMO - No their not worth as much as M3's! but this is surely a alround better car!?.

Its sold!

surely price is a good pointer to desirability. supply, demand and finding what people are willing to pay and all that. to some people, i'm sure that c2 is more desirable than an e30 m3, but judging by current prices common high mileage m3s are being offered at it's not a view many people have.

If i had 7 and a half bags to spunk on a car, that Alpina would be sat in my garage right now.

And the dude with the H28, lets see some pics

A C2 is a much easier car to live with day to day, the extra torque ie 40lbs more than an S14 or 325i can muster makes itself felt in most situations.

Rapid progress can be made without hunting the red line. Which i prefer, but the M3 has it's own appeal which i can see totally

an e30 M3 in very very good condition commands more that £7500, thats for sure

a mint pannel shell with ID goes for £4000 these days
