someone i know wants to buy my LSD off me, which would be handy. thing is i have no clue how much to tell him i want for it.

3.9:1 ratio LSD. it has no play in it so it locks up real nice all things considering.

what sorta ball park figure should i say?

2,250 seems common on the zone for a good one.

I've never really understood how a lsd works - a summary anoyone? Plus, what's the effect of different ratio?

there is effectively a clutch inside... when it realises one wheel is suddenly letting go.... the clutch locks and a percentage of torque can be applied to the wheel that is not spinning to retain forward drive this percentage in most cases with bmw diffs is 25%....

an lsd allows u to maintain a drift/slide whereas an open diff just allows on weight transfer arse end momentum to maintain a drift,,

basically if u want really good traction from starts etc u need an lsd and if u want to drift then it is MUST...

in fact when u get one u'll wonder how u ever did without one,,they really are that great...ill never own a rwd car without one again!!!
