diff ratio

i have a 1989 320 convertible auto it needs another diff as its whining does anyone know which one to get cheers.

should be a 4.1 ratio small case diff
might be wrong but my 320 had this diff

Will more than likely have a 4.27 small case.

Just thought - the 318i convertible I'll be breaking shortly will have a 4.27 on it, or if you'd prefer a 4.1 I think I have one of those too.

how do you work out which diff you have? , do they have a code that says wat it is?

And my 320 cab had a 4.27 open on it i took off.

Search on e30.de. There is more completed table with diff specs.
ramjam, look for the metal made lable on the diff cover. The diff ratio should be noticed on it.
