Irrational Theft

Came out to my car this morning to go to work, and it's missing its front spoiler!
Seeing as I would have noticed if it fell off while driving (I would have run it over), I can only presume that some scumbag coont has nicked it.
Which is strange as I live in a fairly quiet village, sure there's groups of kids about getting drunk on a friday night, but what would be the point of them removing it? I mean all the clips are still on the car and there doesn't appear to be any other visible damage - nothing else has been tampered with.
Maybe somebody just wanted it for their own car?

Yep, expect to see it badly spray painted on someone elses e30.
I'm suprised my iS lip spoiler is still on my car as I park in Bristol occassionally as well.

Well there aren't exactly many E30s in the area, so it's just odd. I can think of 4 cars in the village, including Dan325sports car. There are a couple grotty examples as well, however I seriously doubt i'll find it on either of them.
Twould be pretty foolish to steal it then put it on your car in a village as small as this!
I'll go out for a bit of a search when I get back from work, just to see if it's been chucked somewhere by some mindless kids.
Slim chance though

Well just went for a check around - no joy.
Called the police for the fun of it. It's ok now as I have been reported to the victims of crime agency, so i'll probably get a letter asking if I want councilling!

I reported my centre caps getting nicked to the police, a PCSO came round and tapped on the neighbours' doors and found that no-one had seen anything. I didn't like to mention that I could and would have done that myself. He had a proper policewoman with him, but she just sat in the van scratching her arse. Worthwhile, I think not.

Or maybe someone just felt like ripping it off?
It's possible.
I came out from a friend's house one evening and found mine ripped off and in a gutter not 20 yard s away from the car.
I've also had my rear boot spoiler buckled by someone after they failed to get my boot badge off the car. Shopping centre car parks are lovely!
It is possible that you have just had the misfortune for someone to be passing who decided to take the thing for the sheer hell of it. It happens.

True, there are some proper plush parts, but I am a student, guess the rest
I haven't had a problem in the last 2-3 years, touch wood.

Thieving bastards! Thankfully my IS is tucked away in a friends hidden garage a nice distance from the road. My touring is in bits on the drive but all interesting bits are locked away somewhere else.

The filthy scum can't afford to buy it, so they have to steal it, i had my is lip nicked from my previous car and my brother had his m3 bumper taken from his cab..

When ever i park in a dodgey area i remove my is lip, had plenty of bbs caps knicked when parked in ipswich and colchester, then couple weeks later you see caps listed on the bay in those areas!

So what happens if you mark them with UV pen or something and end up buying your own wheelcaps back? Could you get the ebayer done for handling stolen goods?

You would have to prove you didn't write it AFTER you had bought it (back)...
so no
I lost two some years ago in quick succession...I thought they had fallen off (but maybe not, eh?)...I ended up gluing them on with araldite on both cars (325 and 320)...Haven't lost one again since...

Seriously? What do you do if you need to get them off then, use some sort of solvent? Seems like a good idea, but I can see myself getting stranded with a puncture if I did that! If I bother getting any more, I was going to put some star drive bolts through them.
I suppose if you mark stuff with a UV pen and inform the police that you've done it at the time you notice they're gone, there ought to be some hope they'll follow it up if you get them back. Always a long shot though.

sorry..meant front spoilers glued on...I can get them off with a knife or hacksaw blade...
Haven't had any caps nicked/lost, as yet (fingers crossed), but can't think of a decent way to reliably hold them AND make them easy to get off when needed.
