yeah i got your txt about the £350..... i paid £250 for a distroyed diff. i cant spend that kind of money on a rebuild. i would rather just have the end of it and chuck it in the bin.

i guess its a case of opening it up this weekend and seeing whats what.
i bet you have to take it apart and set things when you put it all back in? line things up etc.
what will make it clunk and what will make it whine? if it was seals then it cant be too bad

but if its clunking there is something big and mechanical making noises and big costs.

If you have access to the required eqpt and the necessary skills then yes you could
If not, theres a good chance you can mess it up

As far as I know rick, doing it diy is going to be a problem, as your going to need alot of tools, plus making sure the plates are the right size, because of wear and tear, doing the pinion gear and crown wheel etc.I know its alot of money but I heard that iirc a Kit can be bought for a ford Capri 2.8i which has the same internals for a lot less.
I read that on another site i think.
But have fun if your going the diy route, orr buy another diff which will be easier., of a reputable breaker of here.
I bought mine from Andy from BBB and have'nt tried it yet.

you need tools, shims, pressing equipment and THE SKILLS!!
Kevo has all the above and more. He has done 2 diffs for me now and am more than happy with both. I think its about £120 for a full overhaul inc seals etc. He can do custom % locks too, so if you want an Alpina spec 40% lock, he can do it for you.... but it'll cost you extra of course. For what I use my LSD for, I dont need more than 25% (standard lock) so the 40% spec would have been wasted on me, even though he could have done it.
I cant reccomend him enough boyo.

Ford Atlas 4 clutch pack fits with a little machining.
Details are on here somewhere along with the diagrams for what's needed for changing the lock up ramps

I've been meaning to get a diff sorted out by Kevo for ages. Gareth, do you ever head up that way still?

Kevo is the man for the job.
I had my lsd : rebuild, ratio change, tightened plates, 50% lock up , e36 trigger wheel and sand blasted and repainted casing for £270
A true bargain

Sounds good as i have an open 3.46 open diff on my m30, so will be eager to know if it can be converted to a lsd
