in a month or so im going to try(hopefully) to source an mtech 2 kit for my convertible, is their any real disadvantage to getting a replica supposing they do them, over a second hand original bmw?

how much are they from a dealer?

I bought a fibre glass copy kit off flea bay for my cab resto project becuase I was told I'd have to "adapt" it to fit a Cab anyway.
At least firbe glass is easier to work with than plastic (which is what I assumed the "real thing" is made from)

Look in the parts section, should be a few up atleast.

only mod needed would be the skirts as the cab's have deeper sills.

Expect to pay around £400 for a good condition genuine kit.

Never seen a fibreglass kit in the flesh, but they will crack easily as they have no flex to them like plastic, and have no re-sale value (that includes if you've fitted a fibre-glass kit to the car.)

You can get cab specific M tech2 kits.

As you said before, rare!

I would say the vast majority of cabs with original tech kits are adapted 2dr saloon ones.

I have a genuine kit for sale! its from a 2 door but the side skirts are slitted to 'stretch' to fit the deeper sills of the cab.

As bss325i said most cabs which have original kits are from a 2 door, original cab kits are very very rare!

I'd say the vast majority of cabs with badly fitted kits are adapted ones.

I'd say most were motorsports or dealer options. I doubt many would have the skill or stomach for adapting a kit.

There is more work involved in fitting the fibre glass kit, they never come ready to fit straight on to the car.
