I have just bought an original e30 325 is tech1.
it has recaro interior, lsd, on board comp. bilstein shocks, head light wipers.
I rang the dealer that sold it in 87 and he comfirmed that it was the tech 1
and had all of the above from new.
i have heard that these are becoming rare and just wondered if it was true as i've not had many bmw's. New to zone !!!!!!
Oh and i only gave £300 quid for it as a non runner that had been sat for 6 six years.
After a lot of welding, new wings cills, rear valance etc it's just a bout ready for a repaint.
I was also interested in how much they are worth for insurance reasons.
thanks for reading
Simon

They are getting rare now yes..
Value will depend on condition, which would need pics, but if it is a minter (not just, yeah mate she's a beaut, after your hard work) then 3k+

I can see why it was £300... How rotten was it?

It has had the floor pan adjacent to the front jacking points re-plated both sides , rear valance replaced (that rear lights fit to)
Inner and outer cills, inner and outer rear arches (still to go on and can't find inners anywhere may have to fabricate) patching to bottom of front wings. and then all the bushes etc needed replacing and so on and so fourth. i was very poorly but is on the mend. I've had the car about a month now and am eager to get it finished before winter so i can a least get a couple of run outs in it before the council spray their liquid rot onto the roads lol.. the engine had blown a core plug but it's now running well although there is a bit of cam rattle...........

the log book is a bit of a grey area as it should say 325 sport but some dont. it all comes down to what some numpty filed in on the form when it was registered.
have you tried the dealers for the inner arches? if they are nla it could be possible to modify post facelift ones with a bit of trickery and these are still available.
keep us posted

you should be able to get inner arches from bmw £60 each and are still available . doesn't look the worst ive seen.. i paid £150 for the one im doing the now needs front jacking point rear outer arches a bit on the inner arch drivers side. hole in the front battery tray apart from that shes solid and is moted till the end of the year but again was a non runner .. there was a large puddle of oil under it when i picked it up plus it had done 200k so ill be dropping in my own lump so nots all that bad

They are pretty rare as they were only produced for a year or so. Great cars. As said above: keep us posted on the progress.
This is my one:

If they were only produced for a year does anyone know how many were actually built and also how many survive today?

There was a diamond schwarz tech 1 sport on ebay a week ago i think, it had been stood in the blokes front garden for a year os so and was sold as spares repair and that needed a lot of welding and went for 2.5k. Made me think about selling ours for that money!

How much material do you need? we have a couple of pieces of bolster material and i think we either have the seat base or the seat back centre fabric.

Sounds like his mate won it

Straight tidy ones struggle to pull that sort of money.

nearly 2000 came over here new. At a rought guess i'd say there maybe 500 left, most of them have been hanging onto MOT's for a long time.
Sadly they seem to be the worst for rust, so this has seen most off along with hedges for heros running out of oversteer talent!
inner arch are £40 from bmw with some discount. inner inner arches are £200!
It's a shame but no one seems to want to pay proper money when a solid ones comes up forsale, they've lived in the tech 2 sports shadow most of their life

no they aren't there are some good ones left, but i take your point. As for numbers some guy on here did a search with the dvla a while back and if i remember correctly found they were down below 300. Oh and they are a lot better tahn tech2's better engine, lighter, better suspension and about 10% better on fuel.

Just a quick update. on the tech one resto project. the car is painted and all the work is done except for a few bits (electric mainly). i took the car out on the road today for the first time (on trade plates) and i must say i was very very dissapointed with the power. to the point i wondered why i bothered in the first place................does anyone know what bhp and torque these are as standard i thought about 190 but my pal wiped the floor with me in his citroen xsara diesel.
spent 2500 so far and nearly done. definately FOR the faint hearted. hmmmmmm.
on the up side the certainly look nice, but a very exspensive ornament don't you think
Opinions on the power please ?????

0-60 should be around high 7s

I think they are around 173bhp if running correct?
they certainly aren't all that fast but I would expect to beat a citroen xsara

You really shouldnt be getting beaten by a 110bhp shitoen
Have the engine looked at. They are fast enough to be great fun.
