E30 Zone

Well not quite but that is what my speedo was indicating!! Think I must have a problem with it as the past few days my speedo has intermittently been playing up. Driving a long at normal motorway speed it suddenly spins round to max (150mph) where it will either sit for a couple of secs or in the case of yesterday for quite a few minutes before settling back to the correct speed (this is matched by the economy meter show 0mpg - understandable as it only just manages 30mpg at 70mph).

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this (I suspect either a dodgy speedo or speedo cable but I aint no mechanic)?

sounds like the old corroded cables at the diff sensor on the rear axle problem. check the condition of the last 6 inches before the sensor.

I think you're just under estimating the sheer powaaaahh of the 316i...

Probably is the speedo cables as fuzzy said, replace as much as you can and give the socket in the back of the diff a good clean. Common trouble spot, both my E30s have had this at some point. Indicated 145mph pulling into my girlfriends drive in my old iS

I opened this thread claiming you had reached 150mph.

135mph is the most my speedo has ever read, chances are it won't ever read that again.

Don't think my 316i could genuinely see 150kmh let alone 150mph....!! Oh for a 318is or 325i engine to be dropped in it!!

What is the 316i's top speed?

i got 121mph

If I did 150mph in a touring I think I be leaving a long trail of brown fluid from the drivers seat

At least they've got a roof

i'v seen 140mph on the dial so (135mph actual) and was supprised how quick it got up there
