As most of you probably know.. i sold mt E30 cabby turbo and invested into buying a E46 325 cabby... I really do miss my E30, and a mate has just approached me and me me a offer im finding hard to refuse!!!
He has got a 1996 Mercedes sl320 conv in racing green with colour coded hardtop and some lovely 19"rims.... In his garage, he also has a K reg E30 cabby with M30 3.5 lump in dolphin grey.. the car got broken into a little while ago and the interior and wheels got nicked, so just a shell with engine and mint body... He has offered both his merc and e30 for my e46 cabby as a straight swop !!!!!!!!!!!!! do i do it????? the merc is worth roughly £5-7k and a K plate E30 with M30 engine????????? who knows
what do i do guys..?

Flog the E46
Buy the E30
and blow the leftover wad on kitting it out with all the decent goodies I.E Eibach/H&R anti roll bars, coilovers, brake kit and a nice interior and whatever engine mods you prefer
Just my opinion of course

Id f*cking snap his hand off mate, cracking deal imo, you get a RWD day car, and the bonus of an e30 with good engine swap already done, to use at the weekend

no brainer for me

My E46 is a 2000 X plate with 120k on the clock.. im really tempted! but the only thing thats stopping me is the re-sale price of the Merc? if i sold it on, i would be dropping/losing from the value of my E46 !!.. i would definately want to restore the E30 back to the condition i last saw it in... my jaw dropped when i first saw my mate on the road with it !!!!!
So i guess most of you boys would snap his arm off as mentioned above?

I'd go for it.
The W129 Mercedes SL is at an all time low at the moment. It won't have any depreciation left in it as long as it's looked after properly. The build quality of Mercedes of this era was superb as it was just before Chrysler (and their accountants) took over, ruining things for a few years as cost became more important than quality. As well as the normal checks done on cars pay close attention to the suspension which is particularly complex and the roof mechanism. I've no idea what the E30 is worth.
The E46 is a decent car, but will continue to depreciate in a similar manner to the E36. Putting the financial arguments to one side I'd suggest going for a drive in the Mercedes and see how you feel, see if it stirs the emotions and then take it from there.
I recently sold my E30 and have my old W107 Mercedes 450 SLC up for sale and will buy a W129 SL once the SLC has sold.
