Hi,
What sort of insurance hike would I expect if I replaced my m40 engine with an m42? Has anyone had any experience in this?
*edit*
I'm 22 with 2 (soon to be 3) ncb.

Thing is tho fella if your involved in a big accident and lets hope your not. If the cars inspected by somebody who knows what hes on about and picks up on the engine your not insured regardless of the premium that youve paid.
Might work out cheaper just to buy an IS. Or just steer out of the way of accidents

swapping a 1.8 for another bmw 1.8 shouldnt really be noticed . not that it would make much of a difference to your premium.
when i first changed my engine the fact i was going from a 2.5 to a 2.0 kept them happy. they didnt seem that bothered about the minor differences

A 16v head looks A LOT different to an 8v head. Any one who is the car industry would notice.

yea I'll tell them as don't want to risk it, could possibly get it on a classic policy as its over 15 years old.

Unfortunately dude most classic policies wont touch you until your about 25, haggerty insurance will cover you when your 20 I think. And there pretty cheap too.
Why do you think I'm driving about in a 1.8 non turbo escot diesel van thats done 148,000! If I could get insured for cheap enough on the IS lump I would, then again I probably would've put an m50 in it instead.
Have you tried adrian flux on a performance policy?
Let me know What your quotes are as I'm in the same situation.
