My 325i sport has sadley gone due the header tank having more oil in it than water! Iv decided to buy a 318is instead of another sport as good ones are a bit out of my price range. Are 318is's good? Are they much slower than sport's? Any help much apreciated.

I'd repair the 325i too, even if it come to dumping in another engine which would probably be the cheaper option.
The 318is is a good alternative to the 325i. I have had both and I have settled for the 318is for a daily driver. Its returning 39MPG to and from work, but then I have tuned it for economy while cruising and for max power on full throttle. Makes for a really nice driving car.
Speed wise, the 325i will always accelerate away on the motorway, but on B' roads etc there is nothing in them. The 318is handles better than the 325i but the 325i has more punch out of the bends.
If it wasn't for the price of fuel these days I would have the 325i for the noise it makes.
Timing chain failures seem to be occuring now on 318is's so be carefull of what you are buying.
Hope this helps.

Ah! You could read your initial post 2 ways, and I read it the wrong way as usual!

Could have put an M52 into it
318iS are a great car anyway with a few hundred quid spent on them.
Just make sure you get one that isn't tappy and one that hasn't had a knock since sometime young lads get them since they can't afford a Sport and then crash them since they have just come from a Corsa/Saxo

If you can get a drive in a iS you'll know if you like it or not. Different animal to a 325i, but good fun none the less. Best bet to spend more on a good one than take a punt at a cheaper option only to find it riddled with problems

BMW used the 325 as a test bed to work out the brakes and suspension before they fitted the superior M42 engine into the E30.

What tuning did you do? Approx pricing? Thankee ;)
These guys have pretty much covered it, you shoulda sorted the sport really, but iS's are good fun. Find one for sale and have a test drive before comitting to anything, then see. M42 touring ftw here too!

That sounds like a very nice way to setup an iS to me too!
Might have to call in with it if I bring it over to the UK at some time!
