would any of you reccomend changing the flywheel to a lighter one on a 318is, and if so why?

Same reason people fit lighter flywheels on any other car

yes but i did hear that there is more a tendency tos tall the engine in traffic - is this true, and if so why
thank you boys

Because theres less enertia to keep the engine truning past TDC and smooth out the imbalance in the engine, the more cylinders you have the lighter the flywheel can be as theres more enertia inside the engine caused by the movment of the pistons, conrods, crank....
Thats why big victorian singe cylinder steam engines had massive flywheels.
I'am sure theres a better explination for it but in essence thats what the fly wheel does

That's better than I could have put it.
Removing the viscous fan and replacing it with an electric one will also give similar advantages to a lightened flywheel.

Demlots is very nice, though calling it an iS these days is stretching it a bit..

But about 1000x less effective

I vote for Jai having the best iS, its a rare galvaniser lightweight edition

I'd say Dave's (Kedges) as its the best example of an IS and it's as BMW should have built it because he's ironed the standard IS niggles out.
Not discounting Appletree's awesome 'charger but I'd call it a hybrid.

Blasphemy! God would have never made a car with niggles!

I've had my JBR ally flywheel fitted for about 8months now i think and i don't find it's any easier to stall than before, if anything i find the clutch easier to control and the difference it's made to performance is brilliant!!
Only downside i can possibly think of is the little bit of extra noise and vibration, but hardly noticeable in a car as old as an E30!

I wouldn't

, although i kinda see what your saying, mines probably more how the iS should of left the factory, i.e. not stupid anchor of a flywheel.
For me it's either Matts S/C or Jame's old red iS with the image wheels as these are ones i've seen in the flesh!
