Ebay Conmen

I'm having bad luck buying stuff on Ebay at the moment. Been conned twice in the past 2 weeks!

The first one was for a set of rear lights for my wife's new E46 Coupe.

This is the listing -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=018

When I got the lights I noticed straight away that 3 out of 4 of the units had water damage and dirt on the inside of the lenses. Closer inspection showed that the plastic welds had failed. This is now a dispute via paypal.

The second one was for a set of these for my E30 -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=017

Received them today. They are Bosch standard unsmoked lights. Two of the adjusters are broken off and the rest are seized. And one of the lenses has a crack in it. "Not as described" is a fookin understatement! This will go to a dispute tomorrow if the muppet doesn't reply to my message in 24hrs.

WTF are these tossers on? I am seriously thinking about not buying on Ebay anymore.

No excuse for the 1st one. But the second set of lights are clearly standard lights (despite the description saying smoked) as for the damage to the adjusters. That should have been stated on the listing.
Hope you get your coin back.

Two rules broken

1 . Don't buy anything from birmingham or there abouts

2. Don't buy from someone who is clearly thick and who considers "angel eyes" a tasteful upgrade.

Ah but Fuzzy, you fitted your "anal eyes" to upset the purists, not because you thought they were a good look, didn't you ? 8O

I thought the lights looked kinda clear but assumed it was the angle/camera flash. Didn't twig on the "no collections".

I hope it's not a zoner!

i've given up on ebay apart from cash on collection deals or high feedback traders, its getting a bit of a conners paradise now, a lot of rouge sellers build up say 50 feedback selling cheap items for a few quid and then blitz list a lot of high value kit over a two week period then dissapear i've been cought out on acouple of buys but dont intend to again, a lot of the time if you search the net you can get stuff like electronics at similar price to the bay anyway

But you left them a positive feedback
Quick delivery. Excellent product. Excellent Ebayer. Cheers!

I know that was left in error! That feedback comment was meant for the guy that I got a set of LED rear lights from to replace the faulty ones. I clicked on the wrong description to leave feedback and it was too late before I realised. I contacted Ebay about it to see if they would remove my positive feedback comment which was left in error but they wouldn't remove it the f***wits.

Cheers mate! In the 4 years or so since I joined I had never had a problem either before 2 weeks ago and I use Ebay quite a lot for buying and selling.

I take offence at your generalisation, Im within 20 clicks of Brum - sell a lot of stuff on ebay - NEVER deliberately mislead - ALWAYS give refunds if punter not satisfied for ANY reason and don't need to be vilified by some southern softee who calls himself an "unofficial trader". Just exactly what is that when its at home except a way of dodging the tax man that the rest of us have to pay our share to.

I got taken for £20.00 from a woman down in Bournemouth - never got the money back. Ebay did nothing to help.

BTW not all of us down South are Southern softees either. I take offense at your generalisation too!!

Can we please lay off all the generalisations, even if they are supposed to be funny. Some people cannot take them!! Thank you.

i still use ebay i got my 316 from there and looked whilst looking for a touring. whilst there are some villans out there just in it to grab your money in general if your careful and check the listing an pictures thouroghly and look at the sellers feed back there will be no problems (i learned this the hard way) unfortunately there are some people who ruin the exprience for all the honest people. also i agree with cabgirl lets not make generalisations because there are some people out there who cant take a joke..

The only things I have bought off ebay that have been over the value of £50 I have actually got off my fat arse and viewed them, then usually bought them there and then, OFF ebay. Its a low risk strategy. I have bought 3 cars off ebay, but advertised on the bay. All have been better than the few words used to describe them. :)

As for this thread, the smoked lights issue looks a pretty dumb call to me :o:

They are in no way smoked at all. But the seller will just argue that its a discriptive term that he thought was appropriate and you won't get your money back.

Buyer Beware.

i bought atleast us$ 5000 plus of stuff on ebay over a period
got excellent feedback from all over the world as a buyer, i bought mostly exotic audio cd's
and audio goodies nakamichi cd700 and cd400 decks etc..

enter last year, there was this company selling SCSI*(scuzzy) harddrives real cheap. so i won
a bid for around 5 x 146gb drives and around 5 x 72gb drives, the tosser refused to do combined shipping
the shipping came to 3fold more than the drives... i disputed the whole thing... my ebay account to this
day is locked. the problem is that there are no REAL PEOPLE as such that one can deal with when it comes
to problems. its all automated and sh!t.

I have had problems with e-bayers too but only on 2nd hand car parts. So I decided a few months back if I want E30 spares I will only buy of reputable sellers on here or I will buy new as it isn't worth the stress. Sometimes it isn't even the value of the item just the thought that someone has had you over that stings.

couldnt agree more! but i seriously believe in karma and i believe firmly that what goes around comes around, those people that think they can simply con people left right and cente.... if only i could be a fly on the wall to see/witness what bad karma dishes out for them for their dirty deeds.. lol

Well I would happily go with Karma if he gave me my money back when it all goes wrong.

As it stands, I think you have to create your own Karma for these people.

There is nothing wrong with Ebay its the fools that spoil it that are the problem!
I use it a lot mainly for selling and learned a long time ago to have the correct blocks in place and to monitor who is bidding to weed out the divs.
One every blue moon slips through the net but its a numbers game like most things.
As for buying i only buy off people with very good feedback that are of long standing. I never buy off people that write their adverts like a 2 year old and never buy from people that write with text talk or bruv ghetto slang

Birmingham is a no-no.
Smog is the only thing that comes from there.
E30 lights - That fella has bad feedback also. I wouldn't but from anyone with dodgy feedback.

Lesson learned, well done in getting your dosh back.

what do people regard as their feedback rating thresh hold that will make them avoid a seller with that rating? is 90-95% for example concidered to low by most?

Before this debacle I never bought from anybody with a feedback of 95% or less. But as has been the case here I got done by two sellers with more than 97%. I think in the future it will be 100% seller feedback or no sale!

ive been on ebay for a couple of years now and ive only done about 10 transactions. unless its a rare part thats hard to get hold off its a safer and quicker transaction to get of my 4rse and go down to a shop. often its cheaper as well.
