Banded Steelies !?!?!?!?!

thinking of going down this route on my e30 320 2 door, i'm thinking of using new MINI steel wheels as the donors.
Steely stats
- ET45
- 5" by 5.5"
- correct pdc and spigot etc
The questions are,
when widening a steely can you alter the offset?
Will 10mm difference in offset make the wheel hit the struts?
Will the difference in offset mean the tyres will scrub on the struts, if so will stretched tyres counter this
Whats the widest size 15" wheel that will fit under standard arches without scrubbing (excessively) under load or full lock?
Or is it just down to good old fashioned trial and error ??
Cheers james

Why not use 4 BMW steels? I can sell you 4 of them if you want... That way you'll start with wheels with ET35 and KNOW they won't hit.
Widening the steel does change the offset, because the bolts are in a different place when compared to the outer lip of the rim ;) I'd aim for somewhere round 10 - -10 offset
As for scrubbing, the more you widen it outwards, the wider the wheel can be, but you'll have to dead with heavier steering, and it could mess up the whole handling if you do it wrong.

steelies for the e30 were only 14's werent they and i just thought 15's were a nice size to start off with.
yes widening effectively alters the ET ( ET being the offset from the cross sectional centre of the width) but if your only making the wheel wider on the outer face the distance between the boltholes/hub/mounting face (whatever you want to call it ) and inside edge will stay the same. maybe spacers are the way forward 10 or 20 mm

Wide wheels are very expensive, I can put you onto someone who does it a lot cheaper, and a thoroughly good job, highly rated by ALL the guys on retro rides who've had him do them.
Yes, all E30 steels are 14", sorry, didn't think of that!
I'd give the mini ones a go mate (since they're 15"), and if the fronts catch, 10mm spacers should have you sorted. If they don't catch at all, can you please let me know, and I'll grab some for myself for spares.

There's a thread about this in the styling/ice section from a few days ago!!!!
I thought about trying the mini wheels, but couldn't find the offset anywhere!!!! Spacers would sort that out from 45 though!!
paper - care to share your contact?????? PM is fine if you don't want to post here!!!!

According to another website the renault* wheels have a 3mm bigger in diameter centre bore, will this have any adverse effects though dips

spigot rings would soon sort that out though, the mini wheels have a smaller centre bore so theres more work to make these fit. just thought id better mention it

Thanks for that, but that really sucks, they'd have been great to use. I'll have to check out renault wheels, which renault used 15/16" steels in 4x100 then?

mini steels defo need spacers to fit the front, as i have some, need to grind the centers out slightly so get em to slot on. 12mm spacers make them the same offset as mims, which dont catch, could probably get away with less but I had 12mm ones handy.

Should be relatively simple to get the centres bored/machined, as long as not too much needs taking out!!
