I was asked for some measurement from the South African spec sump guard I have recently, so thought it may be useful to others if I posted them up here.
This is an E34 guard, different tubular mounting arms but the pressed plate is the same piece as used on the E30 guard, just with the cut out for the drain plug in a different place.
Starting from the front edge
Across the forward bend
This is the rear mount holes centre to centre
Rear edge
Front edge to rear edge
And this is from the front bend to the rear edge

Cheers dan, im gonna be a proper pain now though, any chance youcan get a picture side on so i can work out the angles of the bends, also a measurement where the holes in the back are would be good, thanks man

Hitting rocks is more fun than hitting speedbumps ;)
I'm tempted by a guard, but that'll just make my sump even lower!

that is the exact reason i want one papercutout, 3 sumps on the last car, m30 sumps wont be as easy to find I dont think, that and it was a gay job before, with the 3.5 in its going to be harder, swapping guards would be piss. if anyone has the angles it would help, if not ill wait for dan.
an thanks dan, just when you can.

drifting personally, but the car is way too low for speedbumps, curbs, some camber in roads etc, i can deal with changing a guard a few times but not the sump.

Ah, thought you were being sarcastic
The one I have is very strong, grounded it out plenty of times on uneven roads/tracks, it mounts up to the chassis rails so in effect becomes a structural piece

Iv got one on my e30 320i and let me tell you something, these things are really tough. I hit a bump really hard and the plate only had a few scratches.

why not make a card template first, transfer onto desired metal plate and you have a sump guard!!

Thats a fair idea...I could make one from a card template and cost it up

Hello Dan; Pleased to see that sump guard being put to good use, have now removed the AC system put the vehical on the weigh bridge and it's now 70kg less. Thanks

Hi mate, I was surprised that it was the same plate as used on the E30 guards,
70kg
What else did you remove? Havnt actually weighed a guard yet, dont suppose you know off the top of your head what the weight was?

Dan according to the post office receipt the weight of the cover is: 10.054kg. If i have time tomorrow i will weigh all the AC setup i removed. Just steamed all the dust from the engine bay and underside those S.A. vehicals become real dust traps looks good now, could not find any corrosion spots anywhere not bad for a 89 vehical. Next job is to fit the standard hot / cold heater unit i have, and sort the exhaust manafold. Regards
