I know Im asking an old question so i appologise, but couldnt find it properly on the search a load of stuff came up
I know for a fact that my mate has a cosworth insured on a classic policy and he is my age, just 23 and he got the deal via adrian flux as a broker...i just rang for a quote and they said they only find classic policies for people over 25...so bullshit?
Also I was considering an E36 M3 but as Ive no no claims and im young its a shed load of cash for a normal policy so thought id try a classic as adrian flux says they can find you a classic policy for a car over 5 years old nevermind over 10, but they fobbed me off again...why so?
Any better people to ring or any classic companies i can ring direct for quotes if im under 25?
Cheers for any help guys, im going to have a weekend of ringing around so the more info the better please.
oh yeah im looking at buying a Tech1 or the E36 now so could use classics to keep the cost down, Cheers!

I had a similar problem with Adrian Flux, before I bought the sport I was thinking about a GT4 so i rang them and they said that they wouldn't insure me on a turbo til I was 25.
2 months later my mate who was 21-22 at the time arrived home in a Nissan 200sx (turboed) kept that for 3 or 4 months then bought an RX7 twin turbo. WTF
Then I rang up again and same old 25+ for a turbo C**TS

thats retarded because all my mates insurance has gone through them and he no has a cossie (turbo!) and a 200sx (turbo) and has had an RS turbo and loads of 205 turbotechnics lol
so it deffinately wasnt just the annoying voice on the end of the phone that didnt know what it was on about they really are not going to insure me on a classic policy until im 25?
might be better to find a company and deal direct?

well what I find is alot of companys wont insure you on a clasic policy until you're over 25 and have another main car

Correct. You normally need a restricted mileage and no commuting use also.

I know i'm in Ireland but i hope I can help. What i used to do before I was 25 was take out a policy on a lesser vehicle, drive it for a few months and then change the car on my policy. I didn't ask them for a quote beforehand I just said i sold my car and this is my new one so cover me on this now. Sure the premium went up but i have never been refused cover. They don't like taking on a risky policy but they like losing business even less. I bring in a lot of cars from japan and change regularly. Went from 316i to Evo2 to 318i to 180sx to 316i to Silvia to Twin Turbo Legacy to 520i all within the space of 4 months and no issues.

ive been told on the BMW5 forum a while ago that you can get a policy with just the classic car and no others as he did so, also i know a guy with a classic policy he got when he was 22 so im confused...
i know the mileage restrictions and suits me fine as i wont drive it far and ahem of course i wouldnt commute in it everyday, its only 6 miles eachway so i wouldnt rack up the miles.
itll be dry stored in winter as well if i get a Tech1 so again no worries on mileage, just confused by the age issue...
think an M3 is a bit of a stretch however i look at it when im only just 23

I was on classic at the age of 21. HIC are far better they own adrian flux and opffer the same polices. Adrian flux always seem like they are on a power trip to me.

My friend could not get insured on his rover tomcat turbo for the same reasons having to be 25, but there is a high risk list you can be put on to be insured syaing yo are capable etc, not sure of the details but that is what he had to do to get insured on it.

ahh sweet, he has mentioned HIC before mate, maybe he got mixed up and has his classic through them somehow? hes got 4 policies so easily done i reckon!
ive had quotes for a cossie before and got some for the E36 M3 its just they were way to expensive, im not paying £2500 to insure a car i dont think, even if they are fast.
Anymore companies or advice would be great if people have it?
Ill try and find out about that list
cheers

Personally found Adrian Flux to be most expensive insurer and thier policy sucks, ring around and be clear on what the policy excludes before you jump for the cheapest last thing you want is it being void when you need to make a claim! ps look at the sticky and ring round.

yeah my bad i just noticed the sticky thread lol, SORRY
yeah its going to be best to ring round that list rather than use the websites im guessing?
was really just confused by the sudden 25+ attitude from adrian flux, seem pretty useless to me too.
