New to te Forum- 318iS Questions

Hi All,
New to the forum!
My brother has offered me his 318iS, its a 1991 H plate in the Lazar Blau colour.
Its done 174,000 miles and has about 90% history. (it spent its first 2 years as a demonstrator at sytner too-and has alpina stripes for some reason?) My brother has had it about 3 years and it has been impeccable in this time with the exception of the central locking breaking!
Its MOTd till end of October and is in reasonably tidy condition, the only thing 'wrong' with it is the fact that his girlfriend managed to hit 'a rabbit' in it and has lost the front lip spoiler and dented the front panel immediately next to the NS foglight.
So, the question is;
Is a new front lipspoiler easy to come by and the front panel easy enough to repair/replace?
And
How much should I offer him for the car?
Unfortunately I dont have any piccies of it!!!
Chris

price wise, hit the classifields dude, they are all over the place, condition and rust affect the ££ moe than mileage
the i S splitter is still available new from the dealer, approx £90 iirc retail.
the remainder of the front panel lower section unbolts easily enough, remove the lights, grilles and bumper and all becomes obvious. Plenty of S/hand ones avail too, few hours work and some paint, job jobbed.
Central locking is almost defo a failed controller, it lives behind the drivers footwell speaker and can often be repaired if the fused link has popped( common ) TBH water ingress is the usual killer of these, but again even the most crusty relay assy can be cleane up and serve its purpose again for many more years
guide price, anywhere for £300 to £2K Lazer Blue is nice but not that rare on the iS to qualif for a premium on the pricetag.

I can tell you that the car is completely rust free (unlike the discovery I am currently running about in!!)
Thats reassuring that the panel comes off quite easily-I will have a look around for one.

Its a good choice, despite the wee digs from the 6 pot crew....! Lazer blue I found was quite rare and would have to be my fav iS colour (you could only get 5!)
Value is going to be down to rust, engine condition and goodies, although having said that the standard kit is still good. It should have tech gear knob, tech-1 wheel, cloth sports seats (dark or light check) boot spoiler and is lip were all standard so if it is missing these then value will be even less.
Get some pics up so we can have a look.

Hmmm, laser blue is the rarest colour other than black and silver is quite rare too.
Laser blue looks amazing with a Tec 2 kit mind so might be worth having a look for one of them and putting it on over the valance after you striaighten it.
Usually not a fan of tec 2 kits on iS' but they do make a great job of the darker colours especially if the iS lip is missing or has a few flaws below the bumper line.
Sounds like a good car too, hope it works out for ya

Hopefully be seeing him and the car tomorrow or maybe slightly later on in the week.AS I said, its got a 90% history, and 100% history with BMW specialists since he has owned it.
It has the Tech1 steering wheel, and gearnob (although the gearnob is a bit tatty- perhaps try and find an identical replacement) and the dark check seats, the boot spoiler is there, as I said the only thing really missing is the lipspoiler.
Its got the rear opening quarterlights as well which are a nice feature I think, the toolkit from memorty is complete bar the torch in the glovebox!
Lat saw it about a month ago and it needs a bloody good clean and polish!
If I end up getting it it will be towards the end of the month when his new 5 series becomes available!!!!

Welcome Chris.
Just buy the thing and get on with enjoying the ride.
It would help in guessing a price if you had some pictures, but I'd say you can find decent iS's for £1000 to £1200.

For 174000 miles, no rust, history and a bashed front end it should be worth about £500 - £700.
Search for a second hand panel in the right colour. You could put a request in the wanted section. You may get lucky and then just be able to bolt in a replacement.

2nd job, get new lipspoiler and valance and replace broken foglight!

Oh yeah- need to get rid of my discovery as well!- Anyone need a tow car or fancy an off road toy?!!!

Welcome to the zone Chris...and congratulations on the "is" purchase - what a fantastic toy.
With the front panel and fog lamps, GSF and Euro carparts are a good choice. BMW Car Club Membership will give you a 10% discount in GSF too. If you want Genuine BMW stuff, contact Paul and the guys at Cotswold BMW who will give you a discount and free delivery to your door with your e30zone ID - I highly recommend them, having used them several times, their level of service is absolutely fantastic!
If you are struggling to find a second hand lip spoiler or the cost of a genuine new one is too much then there is a guy on ebay who sells GRP copies (seller name - beemer_world), who I got mine from for £40 - I don't know if they are available all the time but they come up now and then. Obviously they are not as tough as the originals and look very slightly different, and you will have to drill out fixing holes to secure it properly, but for me on my track car it has been worthwhile after I spent a long time searching for a second hand one.
Good luck,
James

I used to valet cars, and I valeted it thoroughly last year- looked awesome all cleaned up!
Love your on the 'pina wheels Ajay!
Had a really good look round mine last night- as well as the front splitter and valance the bottom corners of the wings have got a couple of little bubbles which I will get sorted as well. Really looking forward to driving a quick, sophisticated vehicle after the last year and a little bit of driving an offroad prepped disco day to day- great in the mud, poor on the road and really amusing on wet roundabouts!!!!
