Can someone smugly point out the specifics of the mechanism that secures the back part of the rear bench in a touring please?

One side, the little button with a hole in was up. So I pushed it and the seat unclipped. The other side, the button was fully depressed but the seat was locked into place. Looking at the area surrounding the button, it appears to have had some scredriver mangling before.

Rather than do that, I've looked at the working mechanism and tried to resecure the seat back. It wouldn't secure. However, when I push the button and replace the seat back, it secured, leaving the button hidden.

What am I missing here??

if you tilt the bottom seat base forwards on the hinges do you see a little metal lever sticking out from the bottom of the rear backrest?

I never knew of them until I purposely went outside just then, removed all the crap from the back and investigated lol.

yeah, the passenger side one on mine looks like it has had some special attention at some point. The driver side won't actually lock into place but that's the least of my worries on the car.

I'm now gutted my oxblood leather 4dr seats apparently won't fit

The cams that lock the rear seat backs are adjustable but most people just keep slamming them up until they stay there

Keep reading that the backrest locking mechanism is ajustable. The bloody screw on mine is so tight I have never been able to try!!The thingy with the hole in on the top of the backrest is a 'telltale' to show that the upright is locked into place. It should be down when the backrest is up.The little hole in it fits onto a stud on the seat base when the base is folded forward. When the mechanism for the upright last jammed on the touring,I folded myself into the boot area armed with WD40,an old screwdriver and a large Birmingham spanner. These were applied to the cam on the side of the seat until the 'telltale' popped up and the saet was released.Would probably been easier to put the roof rack on before the trip to the DiY store....
