whatup ppl. my names jon i'm currently a member of e36coupe.com as i own a e36 but i'm looking to go back down the e30 side of play. my first car was a 316 e30 but got offered my latest beemer at a bargain price. but now i'm goin old skool again. i was considerin an e30 325is, 325 convertible or if i find a decent one an M3. the thing i was wonderin is that i got myself an insurance quote on a 325 motorsport vert it was only 725quid as year how much differance would it be for some M power only the m3 not an evo. i don't wanna ring up my insurance incase they laff an say go away. (i'm only twenty and on my dads insurance) thanks in advance jon

I say buy a Sport.

I also say... buy mine!

M3's are more insurance than a Motorsport, as Motorsport's are only really a Sport with no roof. (in terms of running gear)

Welcome to the Zone Jon :thumb:

Insurance on a Motorsport cab at 20 for 725 quid? 8O

I doubt they'll laugh, Motorsport Convertible and M3 are in the same insurance group...

M3 may be a little more due to LHD, but well worth asking.

I guess whether you should buy a Sport or an M3 just depends on what kind of driving you do really...

jonny - be careful insuring cars on your old fella's policy as it is a bit dodgy, especially if you have a claim.

To insure it in your dad's name with you as a named driver, the car would have to be registered to your dad, insured by him, but with you as a named driver.

Insurers are not stupid and realise many people try to do this to avoid the shocking premiums young drivers get hit with. However, if you were to have an accident, they will more than likely start doing some digging around to see if it was the case that you are the main user of the car etc. I am sure we are all well aware insurers are happy to take our premiums, but when it comes to parting with their cash it's another thing.

An insurance policy is what's known in legal terms as a contract of upmost faith. This means the insurer agrees to insure you under the circumstances you advise them of when requesting a quote, so you would be saying to them I drive the car occasionally. If they do some digging around after you have a claim and discover that you were the main user and it was all a load of rubbish you told them in order to get cheaper cover, they will shaft you fella big time!

You're better off either driving something a bit more chilled for a few years in your own name and build up some NCD or biting the bullet and insuring the 325 or M3 yourself.

I think I would wince at the premiums for a M3 and I'm 30 with 9 yeard NCD. I pay over Ԛ£500 for a modified 325 fully comp, so I dread to think what M3 costs to insure all above board.

Good choice though coming back to the E30!!!

I realise, but it's still good! :)

Be careful insuring yourself as a named driver when you're actually the main one as E30BeemerLad said - the insurers can be sneaky enough to go round asking the neighbours whose car it is! 8O
