Hey there everybody!
As the title suggests, im new here! yet to get myself a bm, but out on th look for an 'is'. Looked at a couple so far, and should be looking at another tomorrow. Being new to the e30 scene, im not completely tricked up on them, so any help for finding typical rough areas on them would be great! will get some pics up soon as i find the right first e30!
Look forward to the reponse!
Ben

rust everywhere is what you want to look for as engines can be sourced easily and cheap too.
chech places like the rear wheel arches/boot and pull the rubber sleeve out from the petrol filler cap out and get your hand in there to check for rot.
check the floors if you can aswell and generally just have a good look right round the body for any signs of rust as solid e30's are hard to find these days.
buy the best example you can as if you buy a dog it will cost more in the long run to put it right.

awesome, will make sure to check on the next one! thanks!
"Some say the 'iS' is superior to the 325i.......lol Poke (ducks behind PC)" - because of its revvy engine, and lighter weight?
(also insurable

)

Welcome to the zone mate,
Theres an intense and almost comical rivalery between owners of 325i (6 pot, more power, tourqe, sound of engine) and 318is (4 pot, more modern engine, better weight distribution) on this site. The only thing is its been done to death now and is boring to say the least.
However all is not lost, you will be able to read the "debates" from previous threads.
There are plenty of threads on it, just go to the search function and check the "search all terms" option and serach it.
Hope that helps!
Sean

Ben, Sean is right, you'll find a lot about this topic if you use the search option. I'm bored and am just trying to cause a lively debate for my own amusement.....lol
For a younger driver I'd choose the 'iS' for insurance purposes, although you should maybe get quotes on both to check. I know fuel prices in the UK are high too, so maybe you could consider that? I'm sure the 318iS must be more economical, but sure an 'experten' can chime in ;)

Also known as trolling!
Good point about the insurance tho, they recognise the 318 and the 318is as pretty much the same even tho the is is a lot more powerful!

Thats because even dumb insurance types know the 318is is just an e30 with a bee hive in a washing machine up front.
