Paranoid after 'giving it some'

Just went out for a quick drive. Didnt wanna be out long, but thought id rather do that than stay in. Went round the local industrial estate, and thought, "hmm, never tried to do a burnout before" , ive always done rolling ones in the wet, but not propper ones. So i just found an empty side road, clutched it, span the wheels up then hit the brakes and just had one foot on the brake, and one of the gas giving it some, shit loads of smoke everywhere, pulled away ....
then saw one line of rubber. Very dissapointing lol, Cant wait till i fit an LSD.
Am i the only one though, that feel paranoid after they ever do anything in their car? I then had to go on the dualcarriegway, and round town a few times cos i was certain that my brakes felt rock solid, and i thought i was getting wierd bumps and knocks lol.
Must be going mad

I wish i did a burnout before i sold my car
I did some decent LSD fueled donuts tho and gave it proper stick.
Dont feel guilty for enjoying ur car!

yeah i do it .
it more of a does that feel different type thing
i am allways hearing new noises and stuff .
try doing a burnout the other way
heel and toe the brake and throttle and dump the clutch.
this way u dont roll forward at the end u stay in the same spott from start to finish!

Mate I always get paranoid after doing naughty stuff in the car..
It's normally fine unless it's still smoking afterwards, or there are any proper dodgy noises!

Good good!
Well i think just before i stick my new engine in il lhave to go have some more fun.But for now, i dont want to break anything lol.
I keep thinking things are wrong now, like every time i hit a bump in the road, or feel a vibration in the steering i think to myself "was that there before!?!"
Bit annoying lol.
Quite suprised how much smoke i got out of it, wasnt expecting much, the old nankangs seem to smoke well. Just a shame it was just one wheel lol!

It is this very feeling that stops me from doing stupid stuff in my M5.........I dont even want to think of what it would cost to fix if the engine melted.
Im sure mr GUG wont be abusing the m5'd machine too much in fear of losing the engine..........even if a replacement was founf what a bastard to fit it all again!

What sort of strain does the car get put under when you do a burnout. More imporantly, what strain does my car get put under lol, a 1.8 M40 lump with open diff. I imagen its easier on a more powerfull car because you dont have to rag it so much.
Just wondering, cos im getting withdrawal symptons now!!

depends how you start it
if you dont bite the clucth to mesh the gears and dump the clutch hard
then you break somthing i would think.
your pressing the brakes so i recon the rear pads are heating up a little and heating your engine on the spot .
ive never broken anything . its sharp shocks that should be avoided .

As long as you take good care of the mechanicals, then the odd burnout should'nt do any real harm.
as psychochild187 says, what you really want to avoid is giving the drivetrain any sudden shocks
I've stopped caring about the car going wrong when i'm giving it stick as I know I've done my preventative maintainance
if anything goes wrong it was gonna happen anyway

Cheers guys, so what yould you say is the best way to do a standing burnout withouth doing much damage? My ways probably ameature,i just rev it to about 4-5 k, dump the clutch and switch to the brake and then even them out. Tried heal and toe, but its hard enough for me when im driving to do it, my feet are too big lol

take sufficient screen shots of the video, import said images into photoshop, decrease the image size to a more suitable one, use the save for web function and select gif, then download a gif animator (do a web search, they're mostly free) and add the images - ta-da!
although i'm sure there's some amazing piece of software that will do it easier and more crisply, that's one way at least!

i'll second that! my first car (1300 mk2 escort... rwd!) got through 3 diffs and 6 gearboxes in the time i had it! that was entirely down to tramping (rear wheels "hopping" while spinning). the shock placed through the entire transmission are huge! the best one was when i managed to blow the gearbox and diff at exactly the same time! i put it in gear with the engine off and the clutch up, lay under the car and the prop would spin freely!!!!
i later had a MK2 RS2000 with 170bhp and a low ratio (1300cc) diff... EXACTLY the same diff as the one that got killed regularly with only 60bhp. it never gave me a single problem! the reason being, the RS has anti tramp bars!!!
now, with the 325i, if i ever get tramping (does it occasionaly with the 17's on) i drop the clutch straight away and then drive off waiting for the crunching noises!
never happened yet though!

mine never did with the 15's on but now i have 225's on the back, it does it like a biiiiach!
maybe polyurethane (or solid) rear diff and subframe mounts would help...?

tramping is easy to recognise when it happens... it feels kinda like having a gorilla, on speed, trapped in the boot, jumping around trying to get out!!!

(not that i often get into that situation you must understand!!!)
it's VERY noticeable and distressing! best avoided if at all possible!

Tramping is a bad thing in front wheel drive cars too. I knackered the CVs in my Astra doing burnouts that turned into tramping. It sounded like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin afterwards.

Does anyone have any good tips for certain things. Be nice to know how people generally do Burnouts, or how they take drifting on corners (ie come in sharp and use the power to kick it out, or steer in order to to flick the back out etc)
!
