M50 swappers - how long did it take you?

Was just curious how long it took folk who have done the M50 swap?

I don't mean hours worked on it, but over what period of time did it take?

The touring landed on my driveway last September and currently is sitting there minus any rear end and resting on some spare alloys underneath the fuel tank lol.

Naturally I have plenty of excuses and I have disciplined myself to do a bit of the car at a time, rather than end up with a shell and the place looking like a frag yard.

Trouble is, what started off as a "i'll chuck that engine & box in there and bish bosh" has turned into a bit of a resto with the car getting new pipes and bushes all over and the whole underside cleaned up and undersealed etc etc.

I've clocked Tony (Eko) making a start and I can see he'll be finished before I even get the rear end back on :D

I spent about 5 months on mine, but i did do everything else aswell, not just the engine, suspension overhaul, retro fit abs, bodywork, interior etc.

I was on a ban at the time so had plenty of time to spend on it :)

:squint: someone mention me?

First M50 bought 22 August as pretty standard 320 auto with Mtec1 kit and few other goodies.
On the road as daily car around 26 September as an M50 manual.
Second was reshell from the above.Took 17 days to transform 316i into 325/M50.Put up for sale around 2 weeks later and deposit taken first day of advertising.Car was collected around 3 weeks later.
Current one is no secret just not worthy of the bandwidth space as ive had my M50 glory threads.
Current project is a non sunroof 2dr bought off Ebay about 3 months ago.
Picked up an M50 vanos about a month ago and have been sourcing parts to fit.
Will be in the engine bay hopefully by next weekend.
Complete front xmember with new bushes/36 rack etc is built ready to refit.Rear beam/disc set up is in pieces ready for repaint/bushes etc.
Kunifer pipe/fittings ready to be cut and made.
Injection petrol tank/lines ready to be fitted when rear beam is swapped.

Basically thats where im at with my M50 life and hoping/aiming/praying its on the road by early June
Then im doing the same thing again straight after for another zoner 8O

Gotta love the Hoff 8)

To be honest my excuse is i hit a snag with the rear trailing arms. I took them off the car before I undid the 30mm hub nut. So still got driveshafts in and brake discs on. Because they are off the car and i have no rear end/ diff in I can't get the 30mm nuts undone so I can get the arms blasted.

Really I should just put them in the boot and take them to a garage and pay them a tenner or whatever to blast the nuts off in seconds with an air gun

Put the spliff down too Lee
