I sold five minters for 12/13k back around that time :( My last one was bought taxed , tested and tatty but zero rust in 2002, iirc for £5700 !
PacerPete u could be cruising showing the bruvs, chavs how it is done and be in the City of London with red braces, Filofax and a brick mobile phone in a posh wine bar with the Sport Evo parked outside doing * I tried to use text speak but the text speak filter stopped me * thing .... Yuppie style :-)
Like there are not enough cocks doing that in E46's? :)

Has anyone here who has direct experience of these cars .... Now seriously how good and fun are these to drive ? In the world of BMWs are these more or less fun to drive than a .... E46 CS, E46 CSL, E92 M3 CP DCT, Z3 MC S54, Z4 MC, E39 M5, E63 M6 .... Rank them most fun first and least fun last. Obviously everyone will have diff opinion but good to hear from people who have driven these. I mean these cars are not that fast now though I am pretty sure their steering feel is sublime.

I know they got all the heritage and pedigree but would u honestly say a 80k Sport Evo is more fun than a 993 Turbo for considerably less or two CSLs ....

I can understand someone buying it if they really wanted one when they were a kid though and growing up ....

Doesn't sound like an E30 person judging by the question, but I do agree on the 993 Turbo for the power

After a ride in my friends dad 964 Turbo in 2001 I am in awe of these mighty cars even if they are turbo charged. I think styling wise the 993 is the most beautiful. Being last of the air cooked purists live them.

If only Porsche didn't have floor hinged pedals on their older cars and in general thought more about the interior ergonomics

Lots of minted and not so minted types tried that in the late 80s, it ended very badly and some cars have only recently surpassed the mad prices they were selling at back then.
It did end. Very badly. People stuck with mk.2 Jags they paid BIG money for only for them to end up with a restoration project in under 2 years worth a fraction of what they paid.

A fool and his money! Thing is, these people actually don't understand cars at all. They believe the sellers word is gospel when they see a shiney minter! Only for it to be a toshed up turd 12 months down the line.

One I remember back in about '90 was a certain early black 308GTB. Caked buyer had bought it one summer, done about 500 miles in it and then laid it up for about 18 months as he hoped to watch his investment grow  Problem was, he put it in damp storage and when they dragged it's sorry arse out, it had blown all over. The car was seriously rotten and seriously bodged.

I'd have a 993 turbo over a sport evo any day for driver enjoyment.

In 2001 I saw a 911 Turbo (993) race a E39 M5 on the A4/M4. They were friends I think. To say the Turbo creamed all over the M5 would be an understatement.

Too many PacerPete lol I was in my uncle's last of the line E34 525i which could do 140. Hence I had a soft spot for late E34 540/M5 LE. The M3 just came out then on paper looks fast but I ain't seen nothing the Turbo would blow it into the 18th century ....

And sold to me, fully restored and very lovely for what, £11'750? And it's replacement 1972 CSL, sold for a smidgin under £10'000. Oh well.

Back in the late eighties the economy was strong, rich prats were looking for surefire investments and the recession of 1991 (where there was no money) killed it off.
This time it's slightly different. There is plenty of money about, but folk are hanging on to it. Some are putting money into property as I did 2 years ago when I bought my workshop, others are putting it into cars because they're shit scared the bank they're with will go tits up.
As soon as the economy starts to grow in a meaningful fashion and inflation drops back, the value of these cars will drop although old turds like DB5's etc might cling on. I think it's already starting to turn - that Four Star crowd have got about six E9 CSL's, none of which are selling. They will drop back to 30 grand before very long.

No way is a Sport Evo worth that sort of money. They were nice, but not THAT nice.

For £50k you could get a brand new E92 M3 Competition Package probably with a discount from BMW Dealers with a better engine, better technology, more power, acceleration, brakes, grip, toys, faster, confortable. Yeah probably lacks the steering feel and feedback, heavier and the Motorsport heritage but your not going to go 'racing' in a M3 .... :-)

That will be worth £8000 before you know it, when 90% are owned by Gutterz Bruvs innit.
Best classic for 50 large is a 993 Turbo, assuming you want real performance.

Soni, is it true that you live where you do so that when you get aroused you can walk around to AFN and knock one out against the showroom window ? Does your bird know you are a very sick freak ? :)

Stupid money in my opinion, you could put your money into something far better than cars, at the end of the day anyone can put a price on something but you have to find someone willing to pay it. There is no way an m3 is worth that price tag, a dream car for us all i am sure but at the end of the day it is still just an m3. Whats the point in buying a car to hope it will raise in value by a few thousand pounds over the years if you don't put miles on it or enjoy it, or use it and lose out on all the money you would gain in maintenance and keeping it nice.

Dunno, I don't do the water cooled stuff. Probably okay if you like that sort of thing. At least they're better than the n /a versions.

I think he paid less than 20k from the guy I sold it to. The CSL (with a Geoff Wilson story) is in Australia.

Haha wouldn't u like to know :-)

I did see a Mobil 1 Oil tanker depositing its contents there the other day maybe I should have got u a photograph.

Out of those three M3s in the photograph I would have the M3 CSL :-)

I quite like the 997.2 Carrera GTS Coupe with a Porsche Manual Gearbox I think is a cool car.

I wonder how many of these M3 Sport Evolutions are 'clocked' now they are worth a significant amount of money ?

I am not sure how long I can keep the M3 in the garage I am dying to drive mine

People will only pay top money for a Sport Evo with history, most of the good cars are known by dealers & specilaists and have normally have been in long term ownership.

I have only come across 1 or 2 shady SE over the last 8 years, one of which is well known as a bad car. So they are out there, anyone with a ounce of brain cell would get the car inspected as i did and then walk anyay, if there were any issues.

Mine is coming out of the garage on Sunday, raining or not, she is driven not polished.
