LoL theo .........
10j and 245 tyre is mild stretched , that would require a fair bit of work to clear an e30's arch. even the M3's box arches need to be rolled for that to clear
i've been thinking a lot about what engine to put in to my M3, and what sort of power to go for. as much as i'd like to got for a brutal turbo engine am am starting to think whats the point.
220bhp in my compact (similar weight to an e30) with shorter gearing is plenty quick in the real world, so the s50 with about 280bhp will be fast enough.
my current thoughts are along the line of s50 b32, ARP's rod bolts, cams and carbon airbox and aim for 330bhp, drop the gearing a bit ( for about 150mph) and not a lot will keep up with it
if i do go for forced induction, it will have to have 600bhp other wise there is no point, 100bhp per litre NA or 200bhp per litre FI
ps, i have low comp m30 bottom end from an alpina Bi Turbo if an one wants it (very special engine) Nothing wrong with it, i bought it for when i was thinking about using an m30 donk

I really like the idea of a Nissan SR20Dett but instead of a turbo, a nice large centrifugal supercharger....
Before getting the S50 engine I was looking for a low mileage SR20 to do just that.
Now I'm in love with the revvy/smoothe power of my S50. I have an S50B32, Lightweight flywheel, ARP rod bolts and a supersprint race exhaust (kind-of). It revs as free as a 4 pot and has similar charachteristics, just more of them! enough grunt low down to drive on the torque, but it's not till you wind it up the power really kicks in. Gives a nice drive on the road, and not quite the animal you'd think it's be with 265 ft/lbs and 310 (as a guess) brake!

I've obviously missed out - but what lump are you running then?Jhonno wrote:I have 300bhp from a high revving N/A lump, and struggle with traction, there is definitely a point when it is just chasing numbers for the sake of it, esp for a road/track car
I'd love to drop either the 1JZ or 1UZ in.

wouldnt trust a jap motor for high hp. unless £££££££ have been spent they wont last long. specially if you go out buying cheap ebay turbos

6pot wilwoods front
4pot Porsche rear
89 E30 stripped running a 6speed V8
Twin Turbo M60 in progress

Standard SR20 will take plenty of boost, so will the 2JZ, RB26 and many other jap engines.STiBen wrote:wouldnt trust a jap motor for high hp. unless £££££££ have been spent they wont last long. specially if you go out buying cheap ebay turbos
BMW engines on the other hand.....
Sr20 are alot stronger. Iv had 2 that I drifted. They can take about 350-400 on standard internals but still without other mods they won't last long. They don't like plenty of boost however. 1 bar can be run all day long because they are built as a turbo engine. Not the case for the BMW engine.

Well you're going to need to add supporting mods to any engine when you crank up the boost/power, even though alot of the retards in the jap scene don't seem to understand this. You can run more than a bar of boost all day long, Karan runs 1.4 on his Silvia and gives it untold abuse.

my 330bhp and 300lbft was a nightmare in my touring in the damp or wet conditions. spirited driving was best saved for dry days and even with that i had diff mount and prop bearing issues .

had a quick dyno a little while back, and got 275hp 278lb/ft ,@ 0.7 bar, the tester said it had more he kept catching the kickdown, (doing a proper dyno day soon) .
one of the other soarer owners has his running @404bhp with a few changes,(stock internals)
