Time Attack anyone?

Well, Things that are race prepared like 911's and stuff are on the same level as Caterhams so are faster than my car, but hings like 911 GT3 RS cannot keep up.
My claim to fame is that whilst at Spa last year there was an Ultima (fibre glass ting with bug V8) trying to race me, but after passing him he lost it behind me going through " Eau Rough" and smashed it to a million pieces. To give you an idea the entry speed to ER is 130 MPH in my car so was a big hit. Then I learnt in the pitlane that the driver was a Spa instructor! ha.
Wish me luck...

Fuzzy you fool, this is a munich legends car, stuff dreams are made of.fuzzy wrote:your saying a gt3 rs cant keep up with your 2.7 with specs like these....415 hp @ 7,600 rpm ,300lbft @5400rpm ,0-60 mph: 4.0 s Top Track Speed: 193 mph
Of course it can match those figures.

It also has the performance pedigree of being in the same family as the 318iS.
Not in E30s any more

cue thread turing into a slating match.
Danny it is highly unlikely your 20 year old technology can beat a GT3 or even entry level Porsche around a track given the same driver, simply physics will not make it possible, trailing arm rear end versus multilink and traction control will always win out, yes i could beat a bad driver in a 2CV in a GT2 if i was good enough and him bad enough.
I applaud you for entering you car into a race where you have effectively lost before starting, so in a way you can only win. My suggestion is rather then resort to replies of yes my car beat a Porsche GT3 etc etc as that will only result in a million replies to which you may or may not bite and all the lads will enjoy their ''fishing''. why not race your first race and post the results, that way it is indesputable how quick your car is.
For the record i am a lifelong fan of the E30 but i also realise its short comings, i have had the oppertunity to drive many quick cars on the track here in Bahrain and I can safely say all would beat even a decent set up M3 let alone a heavy six pot. The only exception to the rule is the Caterhams but they weight 600kg and have 200bhp, so the battle is won on braking and acceleration up to 100mph.
enter your race and post the results. and good luck!!

GT3s have 3.6 litre engine don't they? So he wont be in the same class as them anyway. NA under 3000cc, what other cars could he be up against? RX8s etc.?
Not in E30s any more
I can't believe how many people have an "attitude" on this topic.... GT3's 360's and the like are not as easy to drive as a well set-up E30 and therefore unless the drivers last name is Hamilton they simply cannot get the most out of the car. That's why overall cars like that are not competitive. I will post the results up after the first race....
p.s. GT3's don't come with traction control!

hence why i said entry level such as Carerra 2 which do have such things.entry level Porsche
Unfortunately the attitude on such a thread is inevitable, as when new people join the zone claiming various figures and driving abilities then 9 out of 10 times its BS, you may be the 10% and in which case i salute you sir!! entering your race series and doing even moderately well will ensure you are seen as that 10%.
What i was doing , in a freindly manner, was attempting to stop the fishing trips most zoners go on when presented with such claims, if you rise to them then this thread will rapidly evolve into ten pages of slating each other and probably you leaving the zone. We do not want this assuming you are genuine and i have no reason to think otherwise.
So please enter your race enjoy it and fly the flag for the E30, and if you do well then let us know if you dont do well still let us know! you will find plenty of technical help that may give you and your car the edge to beat a few ''better'' cars!
good luck mate

I agree it's the driver that can make the difference. But I cannot believe you can make up that sort of defecit in performance by over driving a E30 as opposed to a equally sorted GT3. And if you're talking racing drivers they will inevitably have a lot of seat time.dannyg1 wrote:I can't believe how many people have an "attitude" on this topic.... Oh and GT3 and RS DO come with Traction control. The GT2's didn't in 993 and 996 variants.

your making a big assumption that high power cars are driven by muppets that dont have a clue whereas all e30's are driven by gods. the fact that those cars will be driven by owners/drivers who have been driving them for a fair bit of time with plenty experience and not first timers will be enough for them to get a fair bit of performance out of them. so unless your lewis hamilton in your e30 i dont think itll get closeto a gt3. my touring wont beat a gt3 and mine is able enough with 330bhp .dannyg1 wrote:I can't believe how many people have an "attitude" on this topic.... I went to time attack in 2005 to watch from what I recall it was rubbish event all round, its just an event for the biggest cheque and the most lame excuses.
If your intentions are just to go for fun then fair play to you, just don't get drawn into the bitchfest which swarms around the event like African bullet ants on a turd mound.

So then... For all you non-believers in me and the E30's.
I;ve just completed the first round of the Time Attack at Oulton Park. I finished 2nd in class and 13th out of 22 cars with a minium of 240bhp and the majority had between 300-700BHP!
You boys don' know the potential of a well setup 327... Was doing Oulton in 1:41.7.
I think some of you owe an appologie to BMW and my little car..
http://www.timeattack.co.uk/gallery.html look at this link and read about half way down you will see me (daniel Gannon) and a pic opf the back of my 327.
Enjoy and look out for the rest of the round.

Well done mate. I was at Oulton on Saturday and saw you out on track. I was milling about the pits just as you went out, wanted to have a look at the motor.
I didnt realise you'd done so well as there was some phenominally fast stuff out there, and it wasn't one or 2 cars that were spectacularly fast it was most.
Good on you mate I know e30's aren't the best but with someone with an idea behind the wheel they are still capable and 1.41 is bloody good going! What have you done to the car?

Bollocks to this 24v scrap!
Thanks mate. The question is, what haven't I done to the car...! I'm planning a few more mods (lighter wheels, electic fan, splitter and spoiler etc etc). I need to take another 1 sec out of the time so got my work cut out! ha.

Brilliant work, that man! Flying the flag for the E30 and showing your tail - lights to a fair few cars.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
The only thing you can get 6 months use of for £101 is the public roads.......Chris wrote:Sorry to OT And very well done by the way.
Mr Heap: where is this track you use? anywhere near welling (is that london welling?)
Cheers

We're at Knock hill on the 17th and then Silverstone on the 31st May. You will enjoy the day and theres loads of stuff on, like drifting truck racing etc etc.
I can't promise a repeat performance, however you are more than welcome to come and introduce yourself in the pits and chat about the car/cars. Would be good to meet some Zoner's so let me know!
If anyone wants to put an E30ZOne sticker on the car please let me know (FOC).
