:D Finally road tested the new M42 conversion.

Karans old little M42 4 pot ROCKS, such a difference from the 1.8i M40 and if you hav'nt got a Z short shift on yet... . get one ordered ,even feels like a new sports.

It wants to rev and rev....holds its own too..... had an off the lights with an Audi S3 kept with him for a bit.........2.7 NEXT!!

take it easy....MaK

Nice one mate, good to see your enjoying it.

Does the short shifter really make that much difference?

Dude.Im fitting an M42 to my 318i soon. How easy was the short shifter to do? I might put that on if im ripping the whole car apart at the same time.

What parts did you use?

 Check the Article on the Z3 short shift its very easy to do.

It does make a big big difference,I went for the 1.9 Z3 shift aparently the 2.8 Z3 is even shorter.

For a bit? Like until he realised the lights had gone green? :D

Sounds like an interesting conversion. Why did you plump for the M42 instead of going for a 2.5 / 2.7 / 3.5?

And as richy said, pics!
318iS became MR2 Turbo became FTO GPX Mivec became Impreza became Rover 620Ti became Honda S2000 (current) became Fiesta 1.25 and 200SX Drift Slag (when the Honda has gone)

MaK-71, Mate, am i right in saying that the shifter has to be removed anyway if the gearbox is comming out of these cars? Just trying to decide if i can be arsed with extra work lol. Probably will try and do it at the same time though, might go for the even shorter Z3 one

cos that m42 he has has 60k on the clock and is smoother than most m20s and trust me its QUICK for some odd reason...easily the fastest iS engined car ive driven-it wags its tail like a goodun

Paul....glad ure enjoying it.... may i suggest skipping the 2.7 route and just dropping a 3.5 in there
