My best E30 drive was a day when i spent the whole day in it! Drove From ABerystwyth to london, left at 3 in morning and arrived at 7 wahoo! Scott knows how good those roads are between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury are! Especially at that time of the moring over the summer! I then drove round london for a bit (had to see my girly and take her to the airport) Then drove all the way back to Aber. Was around 500 miles and got back Just as the pubs were closing for a lock in!

Don't think I really could do that in a newer car (driving such a high miliage over a long period of time with no sleep) as I would probably just fall asleep :td: :td: :hammer: :surrender: :nono: :nono: But driving an E30 (especially on welsh roads) is so involving that you just don't really feel tiered.

I did however feel rough the next day, but that may well have been cause i stayed up drinking till dawn...Its it just me or do others feel like drinking after a very long drive?

Only had mine a short time but the best moment with the iS has to be buying it..

It had been siting at a m8s workshop for about 3 months after the previous owner had messed arond with the vac hose, smacked some old girl up the ass and cracked the front bumper. I was visiting and noticed it and didnt pay much attention to it as i was working on my Mk1 fiesta puting a 1600cvh in the old girl.

The Bwm came up in conversation and for some reason it just clicked and i just said i have to have that car, i had always wanted one and now had the idea firmley in my head to get it...spoke to his boss who was owed recovery and storage cost on the car and said he would work out a figure and speak to me at a l8r date.

Well the car was in Lincolnshire and i live in Manchester so i was really excited about geting it all sorted for my next visit, when , i got a fone call sayig that it owed him(my m8s boss) Ԛ£1200 and that he had informed he insurance compay to come get it or he would sell it to me for Ԛ£1200, guess what the inurance company paid the Ԛ£1200 and instructed a salvage yard to pick her up.

So i was at work,220 miles away missing out on my dream car and there was fook all i could do about it. My m8 txts me the number of the scrap yard who is picking the car up and i call them....

guy says he is picking it up at 2 and if i want it i was to offer him what i wanted to pay for it, i said Ԛ£700 to which he said "Nah its only an old BWM give me Ԛ£500" :o My hands were shaking and i just went yeah ok.....Travelled 220 miles that day, picked her up and the rest is drift history!!!!
Cheers
Joe

I do indeed mate! VERY good roads, especially extra fun when empty!!!! We must see if we can get those roads closed for a day for an e30zone meet! lol

My 2 best must be:

1, When I bought it, after looking at a load of rusty over priced tat, driving 240 miles to Portsmouth on my own then knowing that I had found 'the one', then taking it to leave at a friends house near Brighton and realising it was noticably quicker and sweeter than the others I'd driven. Then I got a lift back to Portsmouth where I left my car then back home, all in all about 700 miles in 1 day.

2, When I infiltrated VW North West, getting my car on one of the club displays, then getting appreciative comments from loads of Dubbers, like "I'd forgotten how cool these old Beemers are". Very satisfying

Best is the way that people just look when you stop at the lights. People coming up to you in the street giving you their business cards offering to buy the car off you. Seeing the nose of the car rise as you acelerate. Older people looking and giving a nod of approval. These cars have it all! :D

best moments - probably two -

1st - in the 3.5 M3, driving to manchester from south london @ 4 am on monday morning, maxing it out on m6 toll (in germany), and crusing at circa 125 the entire way, bar the speed cameras on m42 and m25. got from SW london to manchester 220 miles, in 2 hours 5 mins. Then worked all day and cruised home following afternoon, about 12-15 MPG and all on the company. RESULT - Loved that drive (apart form having to get out at toll road as stering whell on wrong side ...doh).

2nd - drove the 325i convertible to LE Mans last year along with mates civic type R, cruised the whole way with roof up and down because of rain.... trying to keep up with civic, Not always sucessfully, but proper game of cat and mouse. Toll road in france, hit 135 mph with roof down!!! worht a laugh! - anyway when pissed, drove round the camp site enviting people to cruise on the beemer and managed to get 8 people on it, before completing a couple of donuts etc... great fun.

anyway thats me. will dig out some photos.

About 2 yrs ago, driving up to an intersection that had a green light and needing to turn left. The lights go orange, and I gassed it to get through, drift the car around the corner all the while a Police car was on the other road waiting to turn right, saw the whole thing. haha

Did get any nasty letters thankfully!

I used to live in Shrewsbury and when working for parcel force I discovered the best road ever. It's between Builth Wells and Brecon. It's the B4520 as shown here:

http://multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?clie ... ale=200000

Not amazingly long but takes you up to the hills with some lovely sweeping corners and good road surface. Never made it in the BMW but the works van loved it :)

Having said all this, it's pretty hard to find a bad road in Wales.

That would be incredible... every time you look at your car, you are reminded of when you met her. wicked (or a lifetime of torment, depends how you look at it!!) :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger: :snigger:
