thats right fello e30 owners i love my car but  as much as i do i find it a big change for the last ten years i have had brand new cars and minimal problems now as much as i love it, it justr seems to be one prob after another! now i thought i was prepared for this and it is my hobby car which i dont need but it is just the fact that i would not like to go on a long drive in it now i would nearly rather just sit and look at it after all i have wanted one since i was at school! is this just the change to an older car or is it comon amongst converts i have spent a heap of money and still love it i will never sell it and hoping to strip her and completely rebuild it as a labour of love but how many peoplr feel like this!

Its the other way round for me.
All the newer cars I have had have had problems.
If a e30 has been looked after well you will not have any proplems.

Hi Staffy,
I know exactly what you are saying and where you are coming from,
i think you have to assess the reason behind buying your E30 and also what you get out of it enjoyment wise,
I love them due to the following reasons ,,, Maybe your reasons are in here.....

1. They are an appreciating classic
2. Not many on the road which makes them unique and stand out,
3. They are very cool and retro
4. Fantastic fun to drive and you have to drive them
5. You can modify them to your hearts content,
6. It gives me and my other two brothers a chance for us to all have a drive out early on a sunday morning
(they both own E30's)
7. My daughters love it over my other car
8. Allows me and my wife and kids to treck out to shows, good day out

So many other reasons,,

But whatever your reason for buying one in the first place, remind yourself of it,,

Keep your faith Dude.

most e30's need a lot of work to get them right but once this is done they are not too bad. I will give you an eg my last sport cost me £4000 in the first 18 months of ownership to get right and it was one of the better ones for sale when i bought it. however in the year folowing it cost me only for servicing. thats why I keep pointing out to people that buying one of these on the cheap is a dangerous option in terms of cost and why a good one that you can drive enjoy and not worry about is worth a premium.

Same for me as well. My E30s are the most reliable cars I've ever experienced.
There's a raft of things to go through when you buy a fresh one, but once this is all done, it should be the most reliable machine around.

Agree with pnd, once you've gone through the initial ball ache, fingers crossed you should get years of reliable trouble free joy.

I've had E30's where no money has been spent owning them and they have been an absolute dream to drive and own. That's where the previous owner had already spent the money and replaced all the worn out parts.
Other cars have been a nightmare to say the least.

E30's are old cars, things are going to need replacing.

The slightly newer cars I've now got (1994 M5, 1996 328i and 2000 528i Sport) all consume much less money in terms of mechanical repair. The major area where the money is not thrown at is repairing rust. I spend more money on bushes and tryes though but then they are heavier cars.

A clean E30 (especially a sport) is a nice car to own and does turn heads.

A clean E30 M3 is even better.

agree with that i can't understand people that pay out wedges of cash to sort their car out then sell it as soon as it's working fine

They didn't get cleaned, don't think there has even been a new fuel filter put on.

Drained tank of fuel and off you go :) :)

Thats what i thought when i read the title :o:

In the last month I have driven 1,400 miles in mine which is a lot considering I usually average 3,000 miles a year. Im still working on the sterio but apart from that the only thing I would change would be to add an electric fan for when your stopped in traffic. The auto box does not like stop starting.

My master and slave cylendars failed. A few consumables replaced. Roof replaced. Last MOT didn't even have an advisory on it.

In fairness, with the correct application of knowledge, finance and labour, any car can be reliable. It's preventative maintenance.

Unless you have a 318is they never go wrong as it's what Superman flew to Earth in.

Any chance of some punctuation? I had to read it 4 times to get the gist of what you were saying.

Mine has had endless problems, but apart from the initial wiring problem after the engine change, has never failed to get me where I want to be.

Owning an e30 is all about preservation. To keep a pensioner alive they need lots of drugs and the odd person to wipe their ass, its much the same with an e30.

Had three (well 4) so far and it just keeps getting better.

I doubt id ever get rid of my iS that i have now. it just feels comfortable and im so happy with it. Going to keep it even when i buy a faster one.lol

All old cars require money thrown at them but i have a lot of mates with newer cars and they have much more problems with them. And most of them are much more expensive to fix.

Will never change from E30's, theres just something about em. Individual looks, the way they drive and handle, interior etc etc.

when they get problems, it feels like everything goes wrong at the same time, but fix them and they are brilliant and a joy to drive :D

I have found these cars to be very reliable unless they have had serious abuse I have travelled up and down spain many a time the only problem I ever had was the soliniod stuck on me up hill on the motorway in madrid ,which was on english plates ,so i wiull let you work the outcome yourself.
