New User, just bought my first E30 318is
Moderator: martauto
Hi everyone,
I've just registered and wanted to say hello. I just picked up my first ever car, and thanks to my brothers excellent advice I've got myself a nice E30 318is in red. Its a bit tatty in places, with some strange smells and noises, but I already love it. I want to send some love in its direction, make it nice again. I'm a bit in the dark about what to do, but this place seems like THE place for E30's.
I'm going to sort the bodywork out, then I'll be bringing the engine, brakes and lines up to scratch. Then it will be over to you for the tips and tweeks; from what I've read so far there isnt much you haven't tried.
Take it easy
Dave
PS Ok, first question - whats the knocking sounds a the extremes of steering lock at slow speeds ? Power steering pump or something more sinister ?

Think i get the slight knocking when the wheel is turned full lock when parking.

Thanks for your kind welcome.
I'll be doing some basic cleaning (its filthy, inside and out) this weekend, so I'll take plenty of 'before' shots so you can see how bad the bodywork is. Got a pre-emptive MOT booked in a couple of weeks, get the oil flushed through a few times, get some decents boots on it (am thinking of Dunlop Sp9000 - any better recommendations ?) and change sparks, filters and fuilds. Then the real work can begin.
And the knocking is coming from the arches, when parking, so I guess I'll just use less lock...
If I may ask another cheeky one - whats is the best source for a new boot seal and a new sunroof seal ? Mine are a bit rotten. Thanks.

If the sunroof seal is dirty, just give it a clean - it's not meant to be watertight.Moomonkey wrote:If I may ask another cheeky one - whats is the best source for a new boot seal and a new sunroof seal ? Mine are a bit rotten. Thanks.
Both are available from the main dealers. I do have a nearly new boot seal if you'd prefer a bit of money saving
Cheers,
Chris
