This has probably been asked a few times, but Ive just got myself a 325i motorsport and was looking to get a hardtop for it. Im not keen on the vinyl and would like to get a painted one or get it painted. Does anybody know how big a job this is? I have heard that once you strip the vinyl off it isnt smooth a sort of honeycomb effect? Does anybody have any pics of doing this or any experience and rough idea of how much it would cost

do you mean the hardtop cover for a softop ? or the roof of a non softop car ?
you could take the vinyl off its not easy to do though, plenty of heat required and some form of scraper underneath it to lift it off.
then the roof will probly need re painting to get rid of any effects the vinyl may have had on the paint work.
cant help but wonder why a 325i motorsport would have a vinyl roof to start with? winkeye cant say ive heard of or seen them with them on,but im probly wrong

the vinyl is on hard tops to hide the fact that it isnt smooth. you'll need to get it skimmed over at your local bodyshop for the smooth effect. quite expensive as its a big area. you could always buy a painted version but i prefer the vinyl version as the shape is better. get a quote to see how much it will cost. h.t.h
