This was a factory option on E30s. There's a current thread in "tech help" under " total closure-what windows" or similar.

think after readinmg that it measures it via the current , its like when you push the up when its fully up and your car is idling, the idle will drop due to the extra current used, the unit detects this and stops it.

I'd be surprised if they work properly for the rears of a cab unless other rears run a lot more smoothly than mine ever have (and I've had it from new). Mine have always been jerky and seem to struggle against the extra friction of the hood which surrounds the rear window on 3 sides. Since this US design is presumably using a stall current sensing circuit in the absence of the usual microswitch I suspect that would trip out on my rears.

BTW the cab power window does I belive have a sensing microswith to turn the window off since there's no frame at the top and the glass alignment with the hood is critical. That said, the US design won't use it as it's been designed for the regular saloon which doesnt have that.

the 'one-touch' windows are controlled by the ZKE general module. if you notice, an E36 window switch has a 5 stage switch:

1 - rest
2 - tilt forward slightly
3 - tilt forward all the way
4 - tilt back slightly
5 - tilt back all the way

the control unit picks up which part of the switch is being/has been activated, and then sends the appropriate power to the window motor, thus controlling the continual or sporadic movement of the window. when the window reaches its stop, the motor draws more current to try and turn the regulator. the ZKE senses this, and cuts the power to the window motor

i do believe this would be possible to install on an E30, and i would love to do it! but it would be a lot of work, scraping through wiring diagrams, etc!

however, i have heard of someone using the relays out of a Ford Mondeo, or Vauxhall Vectra, to achieve this. even Rover had a one touch drivers window!!!
