Motorsport Cab.
Moderator: martauto
Hi I be a west country newbie I have recently bought a motorsport cab. I have taken it in for insp II and the man say no LSD
any idea which one should be fitted ???
Ring you local BMW dealer with your reg number and they will tell you if it's a real Msport or not. They'll also be able to tell you what the spec is if it is.

Yep tried that, they confirm its a real one, which ties up nicely with the history file ive got. including original bill of sale etc. I just find it odd that someone would take out the slipper,if one was fitted as standard???. having said that someone has swapped the wheels too for some nasty Alpina copies
The car has only had 3 owners and the clock says 60k with all old MOT's and service history to back this up, I just want to put her back the way she let the shop.

Hello!!! Again from the west country!!! Where abouts are ya mate??
If you search on here, you'll find lots of info out about whether it's a slipper or not. Something along the lines of an "s" being stamped on the case? (help me out here!!)
You can also do a bloody great wheel spin too. One wheel spins = open diff. Also if the cars on the ramp, with h brake off, spin a rear wheel by hand and the other wheel will spin either a different direction or the same direction depending on diff.I son't know which way round though!!!!

Im not sure if the Motorsport Cabs had LSDs as standard, there are some threads about the Msport cabs so you should be able to find out.
The dealer will be able to give you the spec your car left the showroom with, so thats another option.

Thanx peeps. I am in taunton, I bought the car from the north east privately, the suppling dealer was in carlisle so I will give them a go, as the local main dealer doesnt seem intrested in talking about my E30 ( they are happy to take me money servicing my E60 tho!!!) Oh and I like the wheel spin Idea, not shy to stick the tail out !! saves switching the DSC thing off in the E60. which is also on stick of course
Irvines at Bridgwater??
They have been more than helpful with my E30. Gave me the full spec when I was looking to buy it (privately, not from them) and they have been very helpful with bits for my conversion.
If youre in no hurry for the info, PM me the reg number and I will pop in when Im next passing - might not be for a week or so though as I dont get over that way all that often.

I think he knows it doesn't have an LSD in it now. He is asking if it should have come with one. That link above doesn't help him either. The guy on that side said none of them listed had the LSD option. Which means they either ALL came with one, or NONE came with one.
There is a thread on a different board with a guy that can look u0p your vin and post all the options info. I think he works for a parts distributor or a dealer.... lemme see if I can find it....

they did have LSD's 3.91 i think, same set up as a sport including close ratio box if it was a manual. Switchable box if auto.
But these cars are old and who knows what happened, someone has sold it, it broke?
Do a spec check from the dealer they will give u a spec sheet with the options the car left the factory with, just give them the chassis number
hth

ta muchly everyone well useful info
I know the suppling dealer was Lloyd motors of Carlisle, they are still trading as a BMW dealer, so I will give them a bell. I did try Irvines but got nowhere on the first call so I may try again. jmc got a name of a sensible contact there ?
The original Nogaro silver wheels have long gone too, I have an interesting advert of the car from years ago with a pretty set of deep rimmed BMW wheels on it, sadly they've gone too, The car now has 17" BK racing Alpina lookalikish wheels which, man at Grants (local specialist), says dont fit the hubs properly and causes wheel wobble as the holes dont line up truly. These aint gunna be on the ole girl for long either!!! I will let you know the outcome of the LSD saga.

I've had 2 motorsport convertibles both macau blue H reg 1 auto 1 manual neither came with an LSD as standard fitment. It is a must have if the car is manual so much better to drive. Does any one know the best all round diff ratio to go for ?
If the car is an H plate car they came in Macau and Sebring and came as stand with LSDs...as per detailed article in BMW Car Club mag earlier this year..details were confirmed by BMW
Dealer will be able to give you a full check of your individual car..let me know last 7 digits as have a data base for these cars to work out the number of autos and manuals..and if an even split in colour etc as BMW wont give this info at this stage..if they know it...
Know people who can supply LSD if required and other parts

Phoned Lloyd BMW, they did fax me a spec sheet, but this only confirmed that I have a genuine motorsport in sebring grey,I kinda guessed that much!! I will try to track down a copy of the car club mag and read up on that article.
Only Neil in the Parts Dept - Ive spent a lot of $$$ therebangerack wrote:jmc got a name of a sensible contact there ?
I do get on with one of the women there though, she sorted the vehicle spec enquiry for mine. If you want, PM me the reg number and I will go and see her again

LSD was never a standard fitment on Motorsport Edition convertibles.
It certainly was an option. If you flashed your Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ at the $tealers, then, in typical BMW style, you would get that 'option' installed in the car, and it would then apppear as such on the Vehicle Inquiry printout that your local $tealers should be able to give you happily.

325i Motorsport Edition convertible - gone, but not forgotten.
H390 WRM was how she left the dealer, If all has gone well here is a pic.

Checked the article for you and they were an option taken up by most people but was extra to M Technic package so you may be unlucky...its another one of those myths and legends
Be interested to know of any others without an LSD as of all the ones seen all had an lsd but the original owner would have had to pay extra
Cheers
