but remember that back in the day these cars times were tested on michelin mvx's, now compare them for grip in comparison to a new set of toyos, goodyears etc and there will be a massive difference in gripover half a second sounds like a lot but its not that much when you consider how much you can save by launching at nigh on 4k on goodyears compared to taking it easy at lower revs with a 20 year old tyre design

I know that davetourings 320i touring ran constant 9.3s on the gtech..
dont think 40bhp and a longer diff is worth nearly 3 secs (not that i'm querieng your times karan-you're a good driver and that touring was putting out easily book power
)
I'd reckon on abut 7.4 to about 8secs

Standard figures you see quoted are 8.3 for the 325i. Im guessing thats a saloon with less weight, so 8.3/8.5 sounds about right for a touring.Geoff wrote:No way does a standard 2.5 tourer do 60 in 7.2 secs. Even Alpina only quote 7.1 0-60 for a C2 2.7.
I think your looking at more 8.3/8.5 secs.
Saying that, my Sport would generally do 7.7/7.9s on the Gtech thing. I now have my Sport engine, box and LSD in my touring, so I will get hold of my mates Gtech and see what it will do.

a 325 sport is quoted at 7.9.would there be much of a difference in weight with a touring? i had my tourer weighed and it was 1465 kg,but thats with the 17's,leather interior and also the m-tech 2 kit.
Just got back in from a bit of playing
As I said in my post above, my touring has the engine, box and LSD from my Sport, so the only difference is the close ratio box and the LSD, as the engines are the same and the diffs the same ratio.
The engine is totally standard, although it has just been serviced and there is a brand new clutch fitted. The standard 325i backbox has been modded to a single 3" pipe to fit the 318i rear valance, but I doubt thats made any gains. It also has the Z3 lever fitted.
So, 0-60 times measured by Gtech.
I made 10 runs on flat straight road and even got a little scientific by doing 5 runs one way and 5 the other, just in case the road wasnt level - Ive been off work for 5 weeks, can you tell???
I had 2 times (the first 2 I did) over 8 secs, both with wheel spin, the slowest being 8.42 and the other at 8.2. the rest were below 7.9, the fastest was 7.68.
I dont know just how much difference the close ratio box would make, or even the Z3 lever because I havent got used to it yet, but I suspect the LSD helps with initial traction.
I reckon the 8 second mark for a standard touring is about right.

The gug 2.7 did 5.8 on the G-tech
my old spprt on the g-tech did under 7 sec's consistanly with good launches, on goodyear F1's 8 inch on the back, no wheel spin!
tourings are 75 kgs over saloons too
Auto car back in the day managed 6.8 from a tech 1 sport. They also noted that a sport with it's different gearing was 0.5 quicker to 60 than a standard manual saloon
We shall find out at santa pod in september boys!
Alpina are notorious for being conservative with their bhp and 0-60 times

To be fair (and im probably going to get shot down in a ball of flames!) but i dont put much stock in those gtech devices or anything else like that. IMHO they are best to be taken with a pinch of salt and only used as an indicator, and not to take the times as gospel.
I have no experience of the GUG, nor do i know Karen but im doubting that even with 212bhp max 220 it would do a 5.8sec 0-60. Im not discounting the cars legendary status on the zone but that is a seriously quick time.
Heck thats faster than the E34 3.6 M5!!
All im saying is that i believe they are a little optimistic on the times. I mean when mags do their timing they have timing monitors at both ends, start and finish.
PLEASE DONT SHOOT ME DOWN FELLAS! All imho.

I agree and I only really take the times as an indication.
Although, my mate whos Gtech I borrowed has done a few RWYB days (mainly in his Vauxhalls) and the times were pretty accurate.

no it's a fair point, probably better used as a guide if anything.
They are good fun to play with though g-techs!
the gug was quick E46 M3's couldn't shake it completely off on the M-way!
