Thats still a good time there fella, close.
I was driving back from Liesester this evening and saw loads of modified vauxhals on the M1, thought there was something on at pod.
One v6 vectra gave me some serious grief on the m25, could hardly shake him, dont know how modded it was :?

nope.. it'd always be on boost @the pod, think about how its bein driven. its not gonna drop off boost on full throttle redlined gear changes

might be slower if the driver wasnt the best..

i wouldn't worry. what is straght line speed anyway.saabs are wrong wheel drive. so who cares how much power they have. it will only give them bold tyres as soon as they go round a corner.
Its all about the whole car as a package.
and a straight drag race means nothing. stick a few corners in and you'd be looking in the rear view mirror and laughing.

wow that was hard to type. think it was because of the bottle of whisky. lol

175s on 14" rims and you'd have taken him.
A lot of you would loose the big wide rims if you realised how much they kill perfotmance!

Exactly. Take the same car for a run with the 15s and then fit the 17s and go for the same run and I bet you'll put the 15s back on!

Oh and just incase anyone thinks the Saab will do a crap 1/4 because its FWD think again. This Coras from MIGweb did a 11.8 on street tyres. Its a 2.0 redtop engine with TB's and nitrous.

Yeah as long as there isn't a muppet behind the wheel
a fwd car can launch almost as quick as a rear wheel drive car.

no i said straight line speed means nothing. Make it a real race with corners and then a wrong wheel drive car is so limited. There is a power limit that a fwd will reach and then it corners like a yank tank and wants to straight on.
you know rwd is the best. Not my opinion its fact.

Dont worry I know exactly what you mean and agree. Just stating for others that FWD can launch up the 1/4 if done properly.

Have a look at a start in the WTCC. There's a few Alfa, Ford and Seat engineers who'd like to know how.

Put it in reverse obviously. 8O

More seriously... a nova red top with someone that can slip the clutch a little bit and not get it to bog down will take off quite quick i think you'll find with 205 or 215 tyres. Obviously if you smoke it like a mofo then you'll be standing still, but as would you be in a rwd car.

I know the physics behind the weight transfer advantage of a rwd car, but you lot make it seem like its a huge gap...i personally don't think it is. Don't get me wrong i would have a rwd car anyday over a front wheel drive, but stop bashing the front wheel drive wrongness. Once you are up and moving there will very little difference.

With regards to japkiller and a "car as a whole package" Watch a red top nova completly bash an impreza round a track and you realise they are not all bad. It would wipe the floor with an m20, but then you could argue that a m20 is standard and a red top nova isn't, god this could go on all day long.

Sounds like i'm sticking up for a tin can nova re-reading that :o

I much prefer the start from my 325 compared with my Fiat Coupe 16V turbo..... Even if the Fiat wins once we're rolling the initial launch is never as good for FWD. Corners are chalk and cheese....

jon_bmw saying Once you are up and moving there will be very little difference between frd and rwd is so wrong. It's just sooooooo wrong.
look at the history of motor sport. rwd rules.(rally is the exception that prooves the rule)
if your just driving from a to b and not in a race then there isn't much difference.Even so i wouldn't buy fwd. My daily is a subaru legacey 4x4.not fast but i'm not racing.would make the dog sick.lol. I believe we are talking tyres screeching round a track kinda speeds though and rwd rules.

i mean. you say something to some one to make them feel better about being beated by a saab( in a straight line lol) and what happens. you get :shoot1:
so be nice nova lover. lol

Touring cars are always dominated by FWD wrongness

I agree RWD is better, but not by the huge margins people make it out to be.

Whats the big difference when up and running then?

Nova lover, haha if there was enough metal left in any nova i could possibly be a nova lover, alas there isn't so i'm not.

When I used to watch the BTCC Im sure the RWD had weight penalties. The 4WD Audis definetely did.

yes rwd cars were given heavy rock to stop them winning. lol
why?cause it wasn't fair on the fwd cars to loose sooooo much. lol.
why do they make all good sports car rwd?

and i have seen a nova in the last couple of weeks. it was still alive a very shiney. You can imagine the rest. The driver was young with a base ball cap.lol.

Andy took the WTCC for BMW UK last year, and was leading this year untill a little indiscretion at Brands at the last race.
All the BMs regularly make up 3 or 4 grid slots at the start if they can avoid the track blocking tactics performed by pairs of Alfas or Seats working together.

Brian I know what you are saying I watched a wet race a while ago, the bmw cained the fwd wrongness off the line. I think basically the point I was trying to argue was the once going a fwd car isn't that bad, yes they inheriently understeer, anyway on the road you will not really notice the difference unless you are a maniac who doesn't obey any speed limits.

If you have ever seen a 205 mi16 with a quaiff(spel?) lsd or any fwd car with a slipper they can accelerate pretty much flat out after 5mph without any trace of wheelspin.

But anyway this is all going rather off topic, i know what car i'd rather be in...the nova...no i'm kidding, bm every time.

had the 205 Mi16!!! that was an unbelievable car!!!!!

fast and it handled, so well, turned so quick - lift of over steer and then plant the foot and get all four to slide or just use the pure go-kart experience!

joy all the time and with it being so light and the throttle response......yes all good.

but i love the panic from your mates as they scream during an ATTEMPTED drift......great fun.

only problem is the pug is French.......breaks down.......and again and again, those drive shafts and the rest just aint strong enough!
