Tyre choice?

Whats the best/good choice of tyre to fit on 15" BBS wheels? What did BMW fit as standard from new?
I'm looking for good grip obviously but life expectancy would be handy, don't want some super soft compund thats all burnt out in 5000 miles!!!

Oh yeh, I'm doin the 3.5 conversion in the extremely near future so they need to put up with some abuse!!

well goodyear eagle f1's always got a good write up and i liked them

however they are getting more difficult to find in 205/55/15

i have just got two dunlop sp sport 9000's and they seem good up till now, not been too harsh on them untill they bed in after a few hundred mile

but they don't half seem grippy

My P6000's are pretty sticky but have heard the boys like the F1's. When I tried to get them a while back it was impossible to get them in 15"

yeah, i tried looking for some. some said they weren't around, some wanted silly prices and some were unsure of delivery dates etc

so i went for some dunlops instead and they seem almost as good

the sp sport 9000 was about 80quid a corner iirc

I have gotta say i don't particularly like p6000's find they offer a poor level of grip, eagle f1's everytime for me.

I've got a pair of toyo t1-r's on some 15 in 205/55/15 and even though not bed in yet they grip like hell. I tried to find F1's but to no avail.

my thoughts on the p6000's was that they were rubbish they spun up in wet or dry and thats on a 1.6! wasnt impressed and they wore out pretty quick too

i am running toyo proxe 4's but they are very new, so i havent lived with them for that long so i cant comment how good they are etc. maybe in a year or so.

I've had lots of different tyres down the years and this is what I think

1. Goodyear Eagle F1. Best tyre I've ever had on a car by a long way,
best grip (wet or dry) best for wear.

2. Pirelli P5000 Dragos, P6000's. Not very good wore out fright'ningly fast
and over priced.

3. Avon ZV3's not bad, fair bit of grip and very hard wearing and good all
round for the money.

4. Yokahamas. Good grip but they dont last long !

5. Toyo's. As above but cheeper.

I've just ordered a set of Goodyear NCT 5's for a good price from my friendly local supllier!
He didn't have F1's so I went for NCT 5's because they are the same manufacturer!

I hope my logic doesn't let me down!

I've had a few different Goodyear tyres and havent got a bad word to say about them, you could do a lot worse trust me !

NCT5s are ok... but not a patch on the F1s - they are aimed at a different sort of driver

I bought mine thinking the same as you (good company credentials) - and my NCT5s have lasted a long time, and to be fair I haven't had F1's on the BMW so it isn't a true comparison, but they seem harder - higher silicon(?) content I believe for increased MPG etc etc - and therefore less grippy

I had F1s on a more powerful/unforgiving car - they lasted for nearly 20k miles and gripped unbelievably well even when down to the wear-bars - I only changed them as the MOT garage insisted!

I think the F1s are in another level - I have P-zeros on the other car at the moment (a pal kept on recommending them) and they are good... but not as good as F1s. I can't wait to get some more F1s when the P-zeros wear out!
But this is in 205/50/16 size, so the answer to all your questions is to buy some 16" Hartge wheels

NCT's are just standard run of the mill rep tyres tbh..

BMW run Continental on their M6/M5..

Toyo Proxes T1-R's are excellent, big improvement over the old T1-S's which were good anyways!!

Goodyear F1's are superb

P6000's dont go there... long lasting but no grip wet or dry, predictable at least

my last few sets of tyres have been toyo t1-r. i find them to have great grip,especially in the dry but they do tend to wear out quite quickly,£85 each,but thats for a 205x40x17.

Had Vredensteins before - and found them good tbh

Been using F1s on the beemer and they grip very well - although not that good in wet when theyre cold.

Not finding theyre lasting very long tho

Dont rate avons at all, had a real bad experiance wi them a few year back!!got toyo T1S on all round at the mo,brilliant tyre,the rears are nearly worn out tho,so gonna try sum bridgestone so3 next.anyone tried them??

I've got the Dunlop Sp9000's on mine .... fantastic tyre so far. Loads of grip in both dry and wet. As far as the write ups go they score nearly as high as the F1 .... they also have the "bulge" on the side so it protects the rim if the missus is parking !!
Currently pumped up to around 2.6 bar whatever that is in psi

No they should be good though, worth trying if you can find them in the right size

i had some toyoy T1-s on sum 17" on my old car an they were very good, so i bought i bought the T1-Rs this tme to put on my 15"bbs and they are better and do grip very well in wet and dry!

I have Toyo T1-S on 205/55/15 sizes, I got for a good price from Camskil. They are amazingly grippy, the next step up is T1-R which I have on a different car.
I would not go for any non-Toyo tyres now personally, I simply couldn't see the point.
The T1-Rs have a line/bead to protect the alloys from scuffing.


I run mine around 35-36psi, 37 occasionally. Also bear in mind many pressure guages are about 5psi wrong in my experience, finding one rated to +/- 1PSI is tricky despite digital guages allegedly being perfect.
