It melted the locating tab off the pulley and caused it to spin when I attempted to start it… not sure of scale of the damage but its frustrating to say the least!

Several times! It rotated beautifully again and again, even when I primed the head of oil it was fine, not nasty grinding noises. It was only after running the cam in the issue was apparent :/
That almost looks like someone has put way too much silicone sealant in and forced it inwards with the Camshaft oil seal.
It does look like it had run hot, Although I think the heat generated by the cam rubbing against the bearing is why it looks so dry. There wasn’t any oil starvation issues previously so unless the new cam was blocked inside I’m not sure what happened with it.
I’m talking to them on eBay at the moment and they want the cam and vehicle details and the OE cam details as well so we’ll see how it that plays out.
It’s looks like its plastic on the M40 cam sprocket, I haven’t really looked at it in detail so it could be metal but can check the other one when I take it off again.
