Hi guys
New to posting so sorry if my etiquette or knowledge is completely crap!
Looking to buy an E30 and looking at upgrades, what people have etc... just wondered if anyone has put in a single din unit that has a screen that flips up and can use Apple CarPlay.
Something like this:
Obviously not this one as it’s very expensive. But just to give an idea of what I’m talking about.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Radio upgrade, Apple CarPlay???

HI mate,
Welcome! No need to apologise for asking a question
I've not personally fitted one of these but I am looking for a period-correct looking stereo that has modern capabilities without costing the earth!
I'm sure someone will be along soon with some experience in this.
Cheers,
Rich

Thanks dude - the Blaupunkt Bremen probably. Is currently £400 and I'd rather spend that sort of money on sorting my bodywork! But yeah - is a great option for a decent budget
Problem with a lot of the fold out screens is they foul the indicator stork.
Many many years ago when I had a screen in an E30 I had to use a LHD control panel to avoid the indicator stork.

Although not entirely period for the 80's, I think that when younger people were able to afford a E30 later in the early 00's, this is the sort of period modification they did to them. They're a cool retro mod IMO.
What's your budget to spend on one? £600 doesn't seem bad for a brand name unit and that one looks pretty good? Great point raise by Kedge though, take a close look at dimensions and what other modifications you'd need to do to fit it.

Yeah that’s a fair point to bring up about the screen fouling the stalks.
To be honest there’s plenty out there nowadays that are quite a bit cheaper, I think that particular one was the first and obviously a decent brand.
I’ll keep doing some research. Thanks for your help guys.

I have been looking at replacing mine which isn't original and think was installed in 2009 according to the receipt.
I have found the below which is a good balance of what you are asking for without maybe the size and expense of having a folding screen. The added benefit is you can change the colour of the device and your screen to match the orangey glow of the rest of your E30. The cradle also folds back into the unit if you aren't using your phone.
As mentioned above, whilst you shouldn't hit the indicator you will find it difficult to operate the hazard/rear mirror heater with it deployed but that is a trade-off I'm happy with.
It's called the Pioneer Sph-10bt if you are interested and is c.£90-100 depending on where you buy it from.
