morning folks,
i'm getting myself an illuminated gear knob for the sport soon & i was wondering if anyone has any instructions on where to take the power (12v) from?
i cant use the cig lighter as that dont work (never has in the last 14yr's of ownership).
so does anyone know of an alternative power source?

if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I can't answer your question but I would say that the time spent finding and tapping into an alternative 12v source would be better spent fixing the fag lighter! That way you'll have a tidy installation using the loom/connectors that come with the gear knob.

you need to pick up the dash light wiring feed from the light switch, there will be wires Grey with a red stripe, you can pick this up from the illumination bulb of the cigar lighter under the centre console or you may even find the two pin plug for the gear knob illumination already there tucked back along the cigar lighter loom.steve_k wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 9:46 ammorning folks,

I bought an E36 one about three years ago, think it was about £120 at the time and £80 cheaper than the E30 one,

I fitted mine recently and all I did was that "fixedwheelnut" said - tapped into the ashtray illumination wiring..
And I got my knob for free from my mate who said I could have it..used to be in his E46. All I did was get a 5 speed illuminated ready emblem for the top and job was a good un.
I bought one of those eBay knobs a while ago for dirt cheap but the colour looked more dark pink then BMW red so having an official knob in there really is worth thinking about !
Does anyone know if leather dye will sort out the wear or should I go with good old fashioned shoe polish?
