Where do you guys store your cars if not at home?
I live on a main road with no garage and would love a place to work on my car. Got a budget of £50k and was looking to purchase something in surrey around east grinstead way but all I can find are block garages that barely fit ford ka's and your not allowed to do mechanics on the road infront.
What have you all done? Anyone in the same boat?

I'm lucky as I have a large garage in a car port under my place

£50k!!!! You could build something bespoke for that, workshop/garage, lift, log burner, even have a bench in it like mine.
There's people in Lancashire don't live in houses that price!

Haha look around my area. Theres nothing! You know those estate block garages. People are asking 25k for one! Its ridiculous.
I was hoping to find a shed on a farm estate that someone didnt have use for.

I have a lockup on a compound that costs me £10 a week - although this is the north! No power/water, but a little bigger than a single garage. Have a regular single garage at home with power/light. Car lives in the lockup, garage is my workshop. Not ideal but it works.

£10 a week!!! Fkn L and I thought I was doing well. A converted pig sty fits two cars and shit load of storage for spare parts £190 a month but have got leccy water tho

For £50k I would suggesting moving somewhere that has a garage - (assuming your status allows!!!)

I've currently got a lock-up in SE25, costs about £230 per quarter, but it's mostly full of parts - haven't had a car in there for years!!! No power or water!!!

I've been looking around East Grinstead recently, but we've settled on a house further south, nearer uckfield - much more for the money and will hopefully have a decent drive with a good size garage/workshop soon!!!

Its depressing. I hate asking people to use their garage/space. Id love to just have the space to pull shit apart in my own time.

Almost any farm will have redundant small buildings that are unsuitable for modern farming practices. Some turn them into living accommodation, as I have*, but for those who don't want to make that investment, many will be happy to rent them out as storage or workshops, etc.

*I use the big ones as a workshop and for storage.

Pauljsc - need to see what a local here built for £40k...flat floor, workshop + room for 3 vintage HGVs and 3 vintage cars. Crappy thing is it's pretty much right next to my poxy little lockup

BSS Barry is the man to ask.. he has multitudes of locks ups and garages scattered around those parts. He might tell you where he finds them.

'fraid not, sorry! There's already two of my friends after spaces (one for an E30, the other for an Austin 7 restoration business).

As Brian said though - farms often have something. Mine is on an 'industrial estate' made from old outbuildings and polycarb greenhouses.

The other place I found was £40 a month, and was just a huge old barn full of other cars. Loads of space to work - his only restriction was 'don't set fire to the straw with a welder'. Just a shame it was a bit further away, as it was nicer (if less secure), but it would have cost over £10 a month more in fuel going over a couple of times a month.

Equally - local councils have garages. I was offered one for £12 a week - but you couldn't work in the area, and it wasn't as tucked away (security through obsecurity ftw! )

Sink and shelving unit which has a number of parts. 4th shelf hold all my detailing products and my DA.



My workbench which I made from timber 97x44mm the work top is 5mm thick mild steel. Very strong and sturdy as the frame sits on top of the legs. The compressor is Clarke 150L compressor. I wanted it specifically to sit under the bench otherwise it would have been wasted space. I am happy with the results.



Tool chest and tool cabinet. Holds pretty much all my tools, specialist tools are held in the cabinet.



I've been working on the Hartge. I needed somewhere to organise the parts I was removing. So I went to Ikea and bought these storage boxes, does the job nicely.



Current progress on the Hartge, its receiving a light restoration so basically I'm replacing most components on the car from HT leads, to servicing the injectors etc.

I've also been polishing the M3, paint has come out really nicely.
