been looking at the ltd edition Neon Cab's and for some reason they appear to attract more rust than most other e30's. Were these non german manufactured E30's, or was the steel of lesser quality?

Made exactly the same, and as they are the last E30 convertibles made, have all the upgrades to make them less rusty, in theory. Just shows how rotten they all are really, but in comparrison to many other cars of the period, they hardly rust at all.
Selection of BMW hardtops available, please ask!

the build quality was terrible
the build quality was terrible
Could be down to the colour properties of the paint as I know with some others cars certain colours seemed to fair better than others over time.
