I know this is like war and peace depending on who you ask. I just wanted to get a general consensus of what people are using on their cars.

Please state the following.

Engine
Mileage
Oil manufacturer
Oil grade
Why you use it

I'll start

M20b25

120,000

Unsure just yet

Looking to use 10w50

Engine has over 120,000 miles so some wear and tear I feel a slightly thicker oil will be beneficial accommodate for those additional clearances

M52B28

Mobil 1 5w50 fully synthetic

5w as per BMW recommendation.

50 gives better protection at high temperatures - as is almost exclusively a track car.

Can't quite justify a 10w60 on a non-M engine that is use for normal driving from time to time. Compromise oil :D

Very interested in this as i have an 88 325i and plan to have it serviced soon and too was wondering what oil was best suited to it - 121,000 Miles, very low use (be lucky if it does 1,000 miles a year with me, purely in spring / summer).

Kind Regards

Made in Germany! A good compromise between quality & price. And 100 times better than the oil which came in the engine when new in 1986!
