Hi there
I heard about this place nearby that does great dyno tune work on cars. I phoned them and the price quoted seems within my budget.
Could someone please tell me what a dyno tune would do for my car? What exactly do these guys do? (The guy explained it to me, but way too quickly for anything to sink in) Would it even be worth doing?
I should add that my 323i runs on motronic, not L-jetronic.

as far as i know m8 the dyno tune will give you a read out of your tourque figure and bhp. They will use the rollers to set the cars fueling to give you the optimum performance (car wont run lean or rich should be spot on through the rev range) Which should leave you with a better smoother running car.
Hope im right in what im saying. Im gona have to have my cab set up on a dyno when ive run in the new engine so id be interested if anyone could go into more detail.

Yup I'd have also thought they'd adjust, amongst other things, the fueling. But as far as I know, BMW's running motronic doesn't have much that can be adjusted. So I don't know what they could do.
I told the guy that my car was running with motronic, but he didn't sound like he knew anything about it, he kind of sidelined it immediately. He did tell me that there would be no changes made to the ECU/chip - Quite obvious actually, as the chips cannot be altered. A new chip would have to be 'written'.

Save your money mate, he can alter nothing without an Eprom emulator and software to re-write the chip.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Something just didn't feel right. Thanks for saving me some dough. As ant said, you need an emulator to map direct and only a hanfull of people in the uk have them and even less know what to do with them.
