This conversion (to Baur cabriolet) was done in 1988. And as with most things, "newer is beter", so the owner (either Michael or Andreas Baur I presume) wanted the new rearlights in his M3. BMW never accepted the M3 to be build as a Baur cabriolet, so there's only one. Sold in 1990 via "Auto Motor Sport"-magazine (just between the ordinary cars in the advertisements) to someone from Holland. It wears the licenseplate YX-45-ZZ, via this I can see that the current owner has this car since november 2000, MOT till november 2015.
In the book they say that only parts of the roof where cut off. The rear side and the roofskin above the frontseats. What they actually did was slicing the roof at about 4 inches above the frontwindow, cutting the B-pillar 2 inches underneath the roof and totally cutting of the C-pillar. A complete new frame was then bolted on the rear, resting on the B-pillar. On the front, this frame became underneath the part between the A-pillars and was spotwelded. Than they welded the B-pillar and then the rearpart/C-pillar. During this conversion, there was a corset holding the body straight.
